As I left off my last update, we were just leaving the Chinese Acrobat show in the middle of it so we could make our 7:30 ADR at Teppan Edo. We walked over to the Japan pavilion and checked in at the podium. It was pretty hectic there! The podium for Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo is shared, so there was a bit of a lineup. I made my way to the front of the line and a very sweet Japanese girl took my information. Her English was a little shaky, so when she asked me "you have a birthday today?", I thought she meant my mother (whose 50th birthday we actually WERE celebrating) and told her that yes, we did. Next thing I know, I see her typing into the computer "blue shirt, long blonde hair"... my mom was wearing a blue shirt too so I didn't say anything, hoping she understood that I didn't mean it was MY birthday. Anyway, she gave us as buzzer and we went to go sit down in the waiting area.
Kind of a blurry shot of the waiting area:
Even though I had eaten the shortcake and pretzel not too long ago, I was famished! I just sat and stared at our buzzer, willing it to beep and shake. I guess a watched pot never boils because we ended up waiting about 15 minutes. Not too bad, really, but I am an impatient person to begin with and adding in extreme hunger doesn't make me any better! But eventually we were called and brought to our table. Funny, it was in the exact same room as our December dinner at Teppan Edo. That made me happy, I like little things like that. Our server in December was Go... and we had him again! Of course he didn't recognize us though. The teppanyaki chef came out right away and I was so happy because I was ready to start stealing food off of the plates from the people across from us!
Our chef was really cute and funny, when he noticed I was taking pictures of him cooking the food, he struck a pose for me!
I don't remember his name, but he was super friendly and my mom and I just loved him. The other families sitting with us at the table were also very nice. We've lucked out both times we've eaten here and have been seated with really fun table mates.
It is so much fun to watch them preparing the food here. It's like getting dinner and a show all in one! The chefs are almost like artists.
My mom and I both got the chicken entree, but first up were the noodles with zucchini, onions and mushrooms. I don't like mushrooms so I gave mine to my mom. Yum, these are good. I really like the sesame seeds in them.
I devoured my noodles in about two minutes, and the rice and chicken were right behind them! The chicken was perfectly cooked and very juicy and the rice was nice and sticky. Perfect! I didn't end up using any of the dipping sauces for my meat, but they do serve them if you want them.
Once we had cleaned our plates, Go came back to take dessert orders. At this point, he announced to the table that we had a birthday.... and then he pointed at ME! My mom was quite tickled and went along with it completely and so I didn't protest too much. I felt a little bit bad though, because they brought me a free piece of chocolate ginger cake (which was very good, btw!) and I felt kind of like I was cheating the system. After a few bites of chocolate cake though, any thoughts of guilt were far from my mind!
Go offered to take pictures of any parties at the table who wanted theirs done, so we took him right up on that offer!
The other chef in the room also posed for a picture LOL:
As a special birthday treat, they also brought me a chef's hat! I'm sure there is a more proper name for them, but I'm not sure what that is. I wore it for the remainder of the dinner, but I think my head is larger than average or something, because it kept falling off!
It was a really cute touch, though.
We had our eye on the clock the whole time because we wanted to see Illuminations at 9:00 so I shoveled the rest of the cake down my throat, we payed our bill (we both got the kids chicken meals so it was only $30 for the 2 of us including tax and tip!!) and skedaddled outside.
Illuminations had started a few minutes earlier (they pipe the music into Tokyo dining so we could hear it on our way out) and we didn't feel like fighting the crowds so we watching from the deck on top of the big building in Japan. We were the only ones up there and it was a great last minute viewing location! With stomachs full of chocolate, rice, noodles, tea and chicken, we were perfectly content as we stood there and watched the show.
I got a few pictures... they're just okay. I got some really good ones on another night watching Illuminations, but you guys will have to wait for those!
I just love Illuminations. It makes me feel so connected with the world and it's such an amazing feeling to be standing around the lake, with people from countries all over the world watching, surrounded by all the beautifully detailed pavilions. I think Illuminations has a beautiful message. I could watch it every night. And the music... ahhh, I LOVE it!
Once Illuminations was over, the park was closing so we just kind of moseyed around the showcase and made our way to the gates of the park slowly.
The Illuminations torches are one of those things that, to me, just scream "Disney". They light up the WS so nicely.

Neither of us was quite ready to go to bed yet since it wasn't even 10:00 so we walked the long way back to the Yacht Club... through the Boardwalk!
I think a lot of people had the same idea as us, because the place was hoppin'!!!
Our first stop was the Boardwalk Bakery. We were going to do the same thing as we had the night before, and get our breakfast for the morning. There was quite a line inside, but it smelled so amazing and we were surrounded by such delicious looking foods that I didn't mind one bit.
I really wanted to go into Seashore Sweets but I was still so full from dinner that I didn't think my stomach could handle anything else. So I sadly waved as we walked past, making a note to return later in the trip.
