All Aboard Presidents Week Mexican Riviera February 19, 2012 Wonder

My son is a lego-loving math and science kid (breaks his dad's heart but baseball, football/sports in general are of no interest to him!) who is a total home body. He is trying his best to be excited about this trip and I am hoping to find him even one other boy he can connect with to make the trip more fun for him. He loves club penquin and his x-box (weekend only in this house so he is going to be thrilled to...

My DS9 is into sports, but also LOVES xbox and Club penguin. He also tends to be shy. Hopfully we can hook these boys up with each other on Sunday!

Hi All, my family and I are setting sail on this trip the 19t(our 1st DC) and I only just now sat down to plan things out. I am so disappointed that I missed the FE deadline. I have added my family to the FE post deadline list, but I don't want my kids to suffer because I waited until the last minute to check out the fun, so I am wondering if you other late-comers would like to do a smaller version of the FE, for just our kids? I am thinking we can do quite a few gifts for this smaller number of kids vs. doing 1 or 2 for the larger group? Let me know if those of you who signed up after the deadline are interested in doing this. Otherwise I will just bring gifts for my little ones, myself. Don't want them to miss out on such a CUTE tradition! Just trying to figure out an easy way to make this happen at such a late date....

We are from San Jose and I am excited to see several other families from this area who also have elementary aged children! I have a son, 9 and a daughter, 6(going on 16!). My son is a lego-loving math and science kid (breaks his dad's heart but baseball, football/sports in general are of no interest to him!) who is a total home body. He is trying his best to be excited about this trip and I am hoping to find him even one other boy he can connect with to make the trip more fun for him. He loves club penquin and his x-box (weekend only in this house so he is going to be thrilled to see the set up on board!).

Are any of you doing the swim with the dolphin's thing? My kids want to do this and I am leaning toward the cabo adventure as I believe it is walking distance from the ship vs. a 30 minute drive. Any recommendations, either way?

Another question, for those that care to share. If you were only going to do 2 things (with or without kids!), which things should we NOT miss.

So glad to find this site - thanks in advance for any responses!

Danae

Last night, We re-print the list to make sure you are NOT missing anybody...
I did not realize that you sign up so late... Just in time. You made it on our list!! So... At least you and your family will get something from us!!!

Sunday is tough because there is so much going on. Maybe we can get them together at the port while we are waiting to board. Did we decide a place to meet, a secret handshake or anything like that? :rotfl:

Sunday at 3 pm - Promenade lounge so that we can meet and update the FE list in case there are any last minute changes.

Sunday 3:30 - Muster Drill

Sunday 4:30 - Sail Away Party

Who has early dining and who has late dining?

We have early dining. We had late dining on our last cruise and, although we enjoyed the longer days, we felt like we were too full when we went to bed.

We have late dining, which is our preference. We have requested the PTTAPTA rotation.

KCandJsMom... I've added you to my FE list! Welcome to our group!

We have late dining as we only booked this cruise in late December and it was all that was left. As it's only my daughter and me, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to change our dining time once on board. If not, we may be eating at BBB or room service on quite a few nights. We're really early eaters at home.

I think we talked about people heading toward the large screen (showing movies) near the back right of the terminal as we arrived. Since it sounds like many of us plan to arrive early, the kids will have lots of time to get to know each other (if I can get my daughter off the ipad long enough to look up.)

If anyone new to the boards is on facebook, a bunch of us have been chatting over there, and we can see each others pictures (with the hope we might recognize each other in the terminal.) We're at Disboarders Wonder Feb.

As for FE, I plan to give something to the late comers as well.
See you all soon!

We have late dining. Also, I have some FE gifts for the latest joiners too.

Now I just have to finish making our own FE! I'm traveling on business right now (posting from the hotel!) When i get home I only have one week until we fly out!

We have early dining.
We are trying to be at port as early as we can... We will be there in front of BIG screen TV !! Can't wait to see you all.:yay:

We had late dining, but cleared the wait list a while back, so now we have early! :wizard:

Late dining for us! I'm hoping that works out alright. I like the idea of not having to rush to dinner but I kind of forgot that we have a three hour time difference. Oh well...

I do have extra FE gifts as well. I plan on trying to include everyone I can!

I don't think we decided on a meeting place. We didn't make it to the meet on our last cruise so I plan on trying really hard to be there!

Okay, how about if we aim for meeting at the far side of the big TV at the port? Is anyone wearing homemade shirts or anything that will stand out to the rest of us?

Once on board, we can do a quick meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3 pm. Since the muster drill starts at 3:30, we won't have a lot of time but it should be enough to at least introduce ourselves and exchange any changes in room info.

We look forward to meeting up with everyone at the port. Not sure what we are going to be wearing, but will post once we decide. We have told the kids we are going down to LA for the 3 day weekend to see the colleges we went to and to see Beverly Hills. We are thinking of telling them that we should drive by the port to see if the Wonder is there and then spring the cruise on them once the ship is in view.

We have early dining which is what we had on our last cruise. We are going to Palo for dinner on Wednesday and brunch on Saturday. Tuesday is a special day in our family - we call it Family Day. Both our kiddos were adopted from Russia and we celebrate Family Day for each of them to honor the anniversary of the day they left their orphanage to come be with us. Feb 21 will be our daughter's 6th Family Day.

Can't wait to be on the ship!

Hi Hilary..My daughter is adopted from China (we'll be easy to spot in the terminal.) She's 8, and we just celebrated our 7th family day 2 week ago. Her birthday is on Dec. 23, and her family day happens to fall on Jan. 23, so we just call the 23rd of every month Mary-Grace Day, and usually go out for Chinese food. Since we've been doing it for 7 years now, she's come to expect it. We even have to sing "Happy Mary-Grace Day" to her first thing, or she'll remind us to do it. At some point we'll get it down to once a year, but I don't see it happening anytime soon! Congrats on your family day!

We'll try to make our way to the TV as well. If we don't make it there before boarding then 3pm at Promenade will be our next goal.

Since we booked within the last couple of weeks, we currently have late dining. Not thrilled with this fact. I am an early riser and ready for supper by 430 most nights. I am wait listed but I don't hold out much hope.

Yay:banana::banana: Finally finished our FE last night... next agenda is pack the suite case....

We will be planning to wear our teams T-shirts ( Black w/ Mickey head logo on it)

We will be easy to spot. I have super short blond hair (had the breast cancer last year and my hair is just coming back after chemo) and my hubby is a big, bald, white guy who will probably be walking around asking if anyone wants his autograph. Don't believe it people, he never played pro-ball, he just gets bored easily and then tries to entertain himself!! My son will be the one yelling, "Mom, how many days until we get to go home?", while my daughter will be rolling her 6 year old eyes in teenager-like fashion wondering when the party begins for her(yes, she thinks everything is about her!).

Our name is hard to forget, too. We are The Garlick's. No really!!! And funnier still is that we live by Gilroy, CA which is referred to as the garlic capital of world (do you feel sorry for my kids, yet?). So anyways, we are easy to spot in a crowd and I seriously doubt you will forget our last name so feel free to say "hi" if you see us. Unfortunately we are not scheduled to board until 3:30 (because of last minute mommy) so we are going to miss the Sunday meet up. And we have late dining which is going to be interesting since the kids usually go to bed at 8:00pm.

Thanks to those of you how are able to include us in the FE - I promise we won't give you cloves of garlic, in return : )

Was 3:30 your check in time? That's awfully late. If I were you, I would get there earlier. My guess is that you'll be able to board by 1-1:30 at the latest.

Funny description! I would encourage you to show up at the port earlier than your scheduled time if you are able to. We had a 12:30 check in in December, but arrived at 10:00 ( I figured waiting in the terminal couldn't be any more boring than waiting at the motel.) and they checked us in as soon as we got there. Our boarding number seemed to be based on the time we actually checked in, rather than the time we were assigned, as we were among the first to board at noon.

Good to know about arrival time. Ours is also at 1230. I was thinking of taking my time at DTD in the morning and avoid the morning rush. DW wants us there at 10 so we can hopefully be on the ship nice and early.

Getting to the port from DL is the only unplanned part of my trip. My hotel tells me not to worry because they will arrange transportation for me that morning at a good price but I am not comfortable with trusting this offer.
