Alien Encounter - does it freak you?

My 2 grandkids have been going on this ride every year, as soon as they made the height requirements and do not find it scary. The more times I go on it the less effect it has. Was on it last week and now think it is lame also.

This is my husbands favorite attraction!! LOL...Whenever we are on it, he always grabs my leg when I least expect it and jumps me!! I think it is funny when the hot breath comes upon you!! I am laughing just thinking about it now!! We love this one

i kept my kids out of this for the first few trips because everyone said it was so scary. finally took the oldest, then the 10 and 7 year olds. I told them what it was about, and we laughed our way though it. We didn't find it scary, but then my 12 year old watches scary movies i wouldn't dream of watching.

Alien Ecounter and Tower of Terror, those are the two rides my DH heads for FIRST THING...because no matter how many times I have been on them, I still scream so hard, I damage my vocal chords, I lose my voice for the rest of the day!!!

Yup, freaks me out!

I think the show and effects are good but I can't stand the shoulder thing holding you down. I get claustrophobic and can't breath. I wish it did not lock in place. When I have to get an MRI they just about have to knock me out.

When I was a kid we used to go down in the street drains just for fun. We even had a hideout set up under the street right in front of our house. Man I had to stand up and walk around just typing this. But the older and bigger I got the more it bothers me to be held in place. It's weird that RnR does not bother me but you are not held down that long.

We had heard how scary it was. It wasn't at all for us. We went on it again the next trip - and laughed through the whole thing. We try to sit away from others so we can hear the dialogue - it is hilarious. My mom was scared - but she is also scared of Splash Mountain...

.... and I will never go on it again. Same thing with the Dinosaur ride. They both scare me to death, and I'd rather laugh or experience a more, I dunno, 'wholesome' scare.....

I do not Enjoy Alien Encounter at all. Went once--that was enough. I keep telling myself I'm brave enough to go on it again, but can never seem to manage it. Maybe this year--I'll have DH to hold my hand!

The Dinosaur ride is a whole other ballgame--I am deathly afraid of them (yes, I know they're dead), and that ride reduced me to tears. Turn me upside down a hundred times--no problem. Put a fake dinosaur in my path, and watch me sob like a baby.

We L O V E this attraction!!!

the last time we went we had a blast! It was my cousins first time to check it out, she was all freaked out so at one point she used her park map to hide her face......HA HA, when we walked out into the day light, she had the park map imprinted on HER FACE!!! The ink from the map stuck to her skin, since it was wet from the spray as well as from sweat!! It was SOOOOOOO FUNNY!
We were all cracking up, and for about 5 minutes she did not believe us until a Cast Member asked her if she wanted a napkin for the ink!!! She quickly ran to the nearest bathroom!

We have such great memories from that attraction that we are sad that they will be changing it! What they could do to ones psyche just from special effects are amazing!

Does anyone know when it will be changed over? We are going for New Years and are hoping to experience it one last time.

If anything, I wish they would move it to Disneyland in Anaheim, they need to get some of the young adults into the park and I think this would be a great way to do it!

I first rode AE in 1996, maybe it had just opened. Anyways, I couldn't sleep that night. My neice who was 10 at the time slept in the bed with me instead of her own. She also begged me to never take her on that ride again.

I absolutely loved it......but it did scare me. I will still ride, because I like the thrill of a good scare.

My time is almost here.......

We have never been to Disney and are going in June. I cannot wait to ride this....it sounds like it will be sooo much fun! They only thing I am worried about are the comments about being held down....I do not like being restrained at all! Is it too bad? Also are their any height/weight restrictions on this? DH and I are both plus sized .. will that be a problem?

It totally freaked my out. I haven't been in it since 1999 but I'm older and wiser and the thoughts have started to fade so I think I might give it a try in October.

This attraction still gets to me, even though I've done it many times. It's scary and funny, at the same time. I guess it's funny because you have this visceral, unconscious reaction to the frightening elements, even though you know it's all fake. It's like being at a horror movie, where everybody screams, then laughs once their higher brain functions kick in and remind them that it's a movie.

I do wish they'd warm up the "blood" though. The earlier poster was right that the cold water takes you right outside of the illusion. It's like the alien squished the guy's Perrier or something.

Gosh, I wonder whats up with that? I went on AE last october and the "blood" was warm... just totally gross. I remember thinking the first time I rode the ride that when I got off the ride I'd look like I'd been in a slaughterhouse.... and in my new WDW t-shirt too!!!

I find this attraction B0RING /B].....but, to be fair, the pre-show is funny. It scared the heck out of my youngest son, (then 7 now 13), and he absolutely refused to get back on subsequent trips(even with a $5.00 bribe)

I am beginning to think that this is not the ride for my daughters, 10 and 7. I have read that you are strapped down, but can the 7 yr old sit in my lap if she gets scared? Is it still very creepy if you just close your eyes if it gets too intense?

Amy, if you have any doubts, don't take them on this. I've seen too many kids wailing in tears after finishing this. It is very intense and is designed to make you personally feel like the creature is about to attack you. Your kids cannot sit on your lap- everyone has to be secured in their seat. If you've ever seen the movie Alien, you know what the tone is like.

And closing your eyes really won't help much. Most of it is in the dark, anyway. The whole intent of it is to use your other senses to creep you out. You feel the creature's breath on your neck, you feel the blood of the maintenance man who gets eaten splash on your face, you hear the creature's wings as it flaps overhead.

I know some people will post that their 4-yr olds thought it was funny, but I think they are in a very small minority. This could give a little kid nightmares for a long time.

Takes more than that to scare me. LOL
But I do not like being held down (so I followed advice here and scootched up in my seat so then it wouldn't be so tight when I relaxed and sat normally after it was "set) and I don't like getting "wet" unless I'm prepared for a WET RIDE. Actually I don't even like getting wet then- but it's something I have to tolerate for the benefit of others in my family who enjoy it. LOL

That's the only things I didn't like about this ride- I'd do it again, but it didn't scare me. I could certainly see how it might scare children though. Even my usually NOT "scaredy cat" 9yr old probably wouldn't like this ride at all- much less my younger children!
