Alaska 2022 - booking flights to Vancouver vs Seattle with covid uncertainty

If you really want to get your flight booked and locked in, I would book the flight to Vancouver, but book it as a refundable fare. That way you can cancel it and get a refund if things don't work out with the cruise.

Hey, Beth, Marni, here. We met on the Western Europe cruise. Happy to see you still planning Disney Cruises. Hope all goes well for you. Looks like we will just miss each other on the Wish. We are scheduled for July 8-11 and 11-15. Hope to see you on a cruise again some day! Wishing you and your family a great vacation. 😃

Hi Marni!!
Of course i remember you!!
so nice to hear from you!
We had two cruises in 2020 that were cancelled. One on the Dream and one on the Wonder.
And another on the Dream in 2021 that we cancelled when we couldn't get to the USA because of covid.
When the wish itineraries came out, we booked on opening day (on opening gold day).
It really never crossed my mind that summer 2022 would have any kind of cloud hanging over it.
We'd had a huge trip for all 9 of us for summer 2021: 24 days at WDW followed by 4 days on the Dream.
But as i said, we had to cancel it because of covid and our inability to get to the states.
So we moved the whole thing to 2022 and made it even more insane. 25 days at WDW, 3 days at universal, 4 days on the Wish, and then the wonder in alaska.
Hopefully this will come to pass.

We did do something disney related last night.
We all went to see Fantasia with live music performed by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
It was SPECTACULAR!!!!! so great. Philharmonic hall was packed. Every seat sold.
And so many little kids, it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed it.
The orchestra was amazing. Such magnificent sound. I'm not actually a fan of Fantasia but with the live music it was incredible.
And clearly everyone thought the same.
The audience gave a standing ovation that went on and on and on and on.
You could see how happy the orchestra was to see the hall completely full.
Of course, we all had masks on and everyone was either fully vaccinated or had a covid test in the past 24 hours.
But the orchestra wasn't masked so it looked normal looking at them.
Our 6 and 7 year old grandkids LOVED it.
They sat riveted.
The orchestra was on the stage and the large screen was above them so you could see both at the same time.
And it was a very very full orchestra so the sound was amazing!!!
We would have gone again, but all the performances are sold out.

It does seem illogical and surprising. However, if we look back to the Spanish Flu, it apparently took a few years, about 3 I think, to have it become "not a big deal". I know they didn't have vaccines, but with variants, not enough global vaccine uptake, and greater domestic and international travel, we are sort of in the same boat. Who would think that we would be in the same boat as people in the early 1900s, considering our great technological and health care advances :confused3
Yeah, look at all the NFL, NFL and College Sports cancellations just this weekend. Even SNL has been impacted. Studio audience and musical guest canceled, and a skeleton technical crew putting the show on. We have better technology and health care, but we are so much more a mobile society and that makes it tough to contain.

More than a couple of Broadway shows are on a literal day-to-day basis right now.

And the Rockettes cancelled the rest of their holiday season.

Well my parents decided to cancel today.
They did not make the final payment yet and they will also receive their deposit back.
The only thing they won't be refunded for is the travel insurance (unless the no penalty cancellation letter they will be sent makes a difference). However prior to cancelling the insurance company did at least say that they would receive a voucher to use in the next 3 years and if the price of the insurance is less than what they have right now they will be refunded that portion.

Two of our group of 7 cancelled today, and I think we're all going to cancel. It's one thing to drive down to Galveston (we're in Houston) and be able to easily deal with the uncertainty, but I don't want to be in Vancouver with a positive Covid test. Plus the possibility of excursions being cancelled or extremely limited, etc. I don't want to keep worrying about it. Looking forward to the cruise is a huge part of our enjoyment, and we're not enjoying it at all at this point.

We have the Wonder booked for August, 2022.
It's part of a larger vacation that includes WDW and a Disney Wish cruise.

We already have the flights to the USA booked (to get us to Orlando), but we haven't yet booked Orlando to Vancouver (and then Vancouver to LA).

I was about to book delta last night, when i stopped to read all the covid restrictions regarding entry into Canada (via plane, train and automobile).

I suddenly worried about booking a flight to Vancouver.
What if Canada again closes its door to tourists and Disney has to move its cruises back to Seattle.
We'll be in a pickle if our flights are to Vancouver.
Plus we're probably going to need a covid test to get into Canada, but we'll have just come off the Disney Wish, so we won't really have time to do it before the flight (unless it's available at MCO).

So i was thinking of flying into Seattle on Friday (after disembarking from the Wish).
Staying in Seattle Friday night (and hopefully finding a covid testing place there).
Then take a train or bus from Seattle to Vancouver on Saturday.
Tour around Vancouver on Sunday.
Then board the Wonder on Monday.

I know i'm overthinking, but maybe not.
I don't think that you are over thinking it
We are Canadian and just cancelled our April cruise from SD to Vancouver. I didnt know we ever stopped travellers from the US? I think your plans is a good one. In your place that's what I would do, I'm a real worrier however I dont think you will be stopped in August and not if fully vaxxed

The land border was closed for over a year. IIRC Canada opened to visitors driving across from the US in July 2021, but the US didn't open to visitors crossing from Canada until November 2021.
