Alarm Clocks

I don't buy it about member feedback.
I mean, who calls Disney and complains because there's a clock in the room?

Doesn't pass the smell test.

I can see people answering a survey about what amenities/features of a room they use/don't use if specifically asked - if emailed a survey or something.

I don't see people calling complaining about them, but I can definitely see people checking "not used" next to DVD player and alarm clock.

Not whirlpool tub, though, I think that's baloney. I think the whirlpool tubs are showing their age and rather than update them, they're ripping them out to save money down the line, but doing a very poor job of justifying how this move benefits members. I'm firmly on team "fix/replace the old tubs". Especially since they're doing it across the board, not just in the oldest resorts such as OKW where they'd be most likely to show their age.

But who doesn't use a clock? I mean, I understand many people don't mind using a phone or whatever, but if the clock is there staring you in the face you're not going to start fumbling for your phone.

Wow. Alarm clocks. A hot button issue. Who knew? :sunny:

It's a relief to hear people can have clocks upon request.

The clock on my phone (that is displayed brightly all night, without fumbling) is a larger display than bedside clocks. So I'll keep going with what I've been doing and be glad I'm reaching for a known object when the alarm goes off, rather than a sticky-with-goodness-knows-what bedside clock. It's a relief to know I won't have to unplug and move the clock on my next stay. And that my dues aren't being used to replace $10 alarm clocks that are left increasingly unused.

I might as well take my shots all at once and add that I'm also one who will be happy to see the jetted tubs go. :duck:

You're just a bigoted alarmaclockaphobe.

No clock, $0 already there, no DVD $0 already there, no ceiling fan $0, cost to remove???, no whirlpool tubs $0, already there, cost $xxx to remove, no sound proofing carpets, $0, cost to remove and add plastic floors... How were any of these costing you any money? It cost more to remove these items, than just leaving them in place.
I can't believe so many are on such a tight budget that a $10 clock is causing such a stir.

Nothing wrong in getting rid of out of date technology. items break and you can't get an exact replacement once they are a few years old. If you keep replacing all items that break you would ending up with a lot of different clocks/ DVD players through out the resort. When you are expected to have identical rooms and equipment this won't work.

I can think of a lot more important things to be concerned about that a cheap Clock and DVD player.

Rooms continue to be refurbished to a high standard and that IMO is far more important.

My wife and I used to have really nice matching clock radios on our nightstands at home. Matched the decor nicely...CD players...top of the line tech for 2008.

I threw them in the trash about 3 years ago. Just took up space. Never used them.

I think they should replace all ovens and microwaves with models that don't have clocks.

After all, clocks are outdated and the new models may save 10¢.

How about room phones? Other than calling the centralized "front desk" to request a bellman at checkout, I haven't used one in years.

Imagine what it would save to dump those? :thumbsup2

A alarm clock is not out of date technology. They would not be selling them in the stores if they were obsolete like a VCR.

Maybe people are breaking them in the room? Or stealing them? But I doubt someone complained oh no I have an alarm clock in my room, oh the horror!

Since they are removing the DVD players I am assuming you can no longer borrow a movie?

Problem will be out of town guests like myself. I don't even bring my cell phone to Orlando since I live in Canada and I worry about roaming fees.

You still can. If you don't have a device to play a DVD you can request one from the resort (I think housekeeping who also should have the clocks).

I think they should be available for those that request one, but we never used it and they always seem to have the wrong time.

Excellent point! I didn't consider this. Completely valid argument.
