In your opinion. In MY opinion the clocks are needed. Each to his own. What a waste of money.... No need for clocks in rooms these days. Would prefer not to pay for these through annual dues.

I dare to say I have stayed in more hotels than anyone on the Dis (bold statement I know). No clocks are very rare, although I have run into one or two. Most of the non-disney hotels i have stayed at recently have done away with clocks in the rooms too. they are not needed anymore.

That's a big savings, about 1/10 on a penny per point if a new clock is added every year.
I want a clock! I don't use the alarm function, I just want a light up clock. And I DON"T want to wake up in the middle of the night, in the dark, and feel around for my iphone, and have to press a button, that'll wake me up, no thank you! give us back the clocks please.

It you add up all the small savings made through sensible cuts it does make a difference.
Getting rid of DVD players is another sensible cost reduction.
I am delighted that DVC are focusing on keeping costs down.

No clock, $0 already there, no DVD $0 already there, no ceiling fan $0, cost to remove???, no whirlpool tubs $0, already there, cost $xxx to remove, no sound proofing carpets, $0, cost to remove and add plastic floors... How were any of these costing you any money? It cost more to remove these items, than just leaving them in place.
I can't believe so many are on such a tight budget that a $10 clock is causing such a stir.
I cant remember when i didnt use my cell phone for an alarm clock...so i never really thought about itIt's just beyond belief why DVC would eliminate alarm clocks.
They just can't be that stupid... Or cheap??
Whats next... Eliminate toilets??

If I need to wake up early for work I get a wake up call, set the alarm clock, set two alarms on my phone, and two on my iPad. I scatter them in different places of the room, and stagger the alarm time by 10 minutes.I cant remember when i didnt use my cell phone for an alarm clock...so i never really thought about it
I don't buy it about member feedback.I wrote to Member Services last week lamenting the removal of the whirlpool tubs, and also mentioned the DVD players and alarm clocks.
I got a call back on Saturday from an MS rep, who was following up on my e-mail. He gave me the expected spiel about how my feedback was valuable and they're glad to pass it on, etc, to the appropriate teams.
He mentioned that the removal of the DVD players and alarm clocks were specifically in regards to member feedback - many people use their phone and many people reported not using the DVD players, etc - but he stressed that both items will still be available on request. So we can still have them, but we have to ask for them specifically. Fine.
His argument about why they were removing the whirlpools was less persuasive - basically, maintenance on them is very costly and time-consuming and if a whirlpool tub doesn't work, they're not allowed to rent the room out at all, so they have to move people to a different room and possibly even off-site, and this was happening more frequently (I guess the age of the tubs?) so, yeah, these are going away, but again, he'll make sure my feedback is registered, etc.
So, boo.
