Alarm Clocks

Most of the non-disney hotels i have stayed at recently have done away with clocks in the rooms too. they are not needed anymore.

I dare to say I have stayed in more hotels than anyone on the Dis (bold statement I know). No clocks are very rare, although I have run into one or two.

The only hotel I've stayed at without one, other than Disney (and I also stay at a lot) had a tablet in a stand instead of the traditional clock. How about that instead? :rolleyes1

I want a clock! I don't use the alarm function, I just want a light up clock. And I DON"T want to wake up in the middle of the night, in the dark, and feel around for my iphone, and have to press a button, that'll wake me up, no thank you! give us back the clocks please.

That's a big savings, about 1/10 on a penny per point if a new clock is added every year.

It you add up all the small savings made through sensible cuts it does make a difference.

Getting rid of DVD players is another sensible cost reduction.

I am delighted that DVC are focusing on keeping costs down.

Nothing to stop you bringing your own if it's that important to you.

I am the same way. Not everyone is techy. I dont trust the wake up call system as I was a disaster on my first Disney trip. I dont see how this is a cost savings either.

I have never been to a hotel that didn't have one.

They are getting rid of the DVD players? That would be a shame my DD loves borrowing the movies. :(

I don't think that the clock time was ever correct and setting the time was a challenge. We used the clock on the microwave if we didn't use our phones.

No clock, $0 already there, no DVD $0 already there, no ceiling fan $0, cost to remove???, no whirlpool tubs $0, already there, cost $xxx to remove, no sound proofing carpets, $0, cost to remove and add plastic floors... How were any of these costing you any money? It cost more to remove these items, than just leaving them in place.
I can't believe so many are on such a tight budget that a $10 clock is causing such a stir.

Actually this sort of cheapness will make me rethink buying more points. Especially direct from Disney.

Not just Disney or DVC anymore. I've stayed in a couple of hotels in the past year that have no clocks. One of them was a Hilton. Personally I've been using my cell phone for an alarm clock while traveling for years.

It's just beyond belief why DVC would eliminate alarm clocks.

They just can't be that stupid... Or cheap??

Whats next... Eliminate toilets??

I cant remember when i didnt use my cell phone for an alarm clock...so i never really thought about it

If I need to wake up early for work I get a wake up call, set the alarm clock, set two alarms on my phone, and two on my iPad. I scatter them in different places of the room, and stagger the alarm time by 10 minutes.

For me it is not just about an alarm but when I wake up in the middle of the night I usually can make out the time on the alarm clock without my glasses on.

No way can I see a wall clock. If there is not one in my room, I will request one. I should not have to bring one from home.

Not everyone is techo-crazy. I don't live by my cell phone. It usually stays in my purse with the ringer off.

I noticed at BLT & Boardwalk Villas on several stays that the iHome on the night stand would be unplugged, which is rather annoying because they are difficult to reset. I think maybe it had something to do with folks unplugging the clocks to plug in their phones and perhaps some other feedback they were receiving on the issue. I personally prefer a clock so I know what time it is when I wake up randomly-I have lousy eyesight so big numbers are lovely! I also do not like having my phone on or near me at night.

Luckily I love wake up calls-that is my preferred wake up method :)

I wrote to Member Services last week lamenting the removal of the whirlpool tubs, and also mentioned the DVD players and alarm clocks.

I got a call back on Saturday from an MS rep, who was following up on my e-mail. He gave me the expected spiel about how my feedback was valuable and they're glad to pass it on, etc, to the appropriate teams.

He mentioned that the removal of the DVD players and alarm clocks were specifically in regards to member feedback - many people use their phone and many people reported not using the DVD players, etc - but he stressed that both items will still be available on request. So we can still have them, but we have to ask for them specifically. Fine.

His argument about why they were removing the whirlpools was less persuasive - basically, maintenance on them is very costly and time-consuming and if a whirlpool tub doesn't work, they're not allowed to rent the room out at all, so they have to move people to a different room and possibly even off-site, and this was happening more frequently (I guess the age of the tubs?) so, yeah, these are going away, but again, he'll make sure my feedback is registered, etc.

So, boo.

I don't buy it about member feedback.
I mean, who calls Disney and complains because there's a clock in the room?

Doesn't pass the smell test.
