the price is close to the same and I'm a Quick Silver (Alamo) and Blue Chip (Thrifty) member.

Which of the two would you choose and why?

Are both of them on airport property? (that would be a deal clencher if one was/one was not!) Besides the price that's why I don't do Hertz anymore either. I don't want to have to mess with off site companies - I hate shuttle busses! LOL

Is one of the two programs a better/easier program (like Emerald club where you book your category and simply walk out to select your car if you checked in online first?)

Alamo res specifies Chevrolet TrailBlazer or similar
Thrifty res specifies Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar

Does anyone know what the respective companies "or similar" are?

They are both in the airport. I've used both and I like Alamo because you can check in online then you just go out to the garage and pick the vehicle out of that category row and pass in the paper work as you exit. ( Like Emerald Club except you don't have Emerald Aisle to choose from.) I'm not a QS member but can still check in online.
With Thrifty you are assigned a specific vehicle. Didn't have any problems but just like being able to pick the vehicle I want.

Thanks! I'll do the Alamo then. I knew one of them was that way - I just couldn't remember who we used in the past! I think my brain is just overwhelmed with getting everything in order with a little over a week to go.

And I'm thrilled beyond words that our rate is almost half of what it was before! Woo Hoo!!!!
