Alamo coupon codes?

I have been poking around this thread to find an easy-pickup car rental from MCO and it looks like Alamo is good, especially if you sign up for the insider pass and use the kiosk.

Now my question is, how do you get a great rate from Alamo? We have AAA, BJ's membership, etc. if that helps. We only have 3 passengers so size is not an issue.

The best rate we found was with the Costco discount and coupon (which also gives a free additional driver). Really depends on your dates-- just try every discount you have access to and then keep checking rates as your dates approach; we rebooked several times at lower rates.

Alamo and National both make the pick up process very easy. With National's Emerald Club you don't even have to use a kiosk - just walk out and pick a car. Alamo usually has lower rates.

Mousesavers.com gives lots of tips and discount codes and coupon codes. I was able to combine a 20% off code and $40 off coupon and reserved a full size with National for 10 days for $149 including all taxes and fees.

Once you find a price that seems good, book the car. Then check back often because prices change all the time. If you find a better price, book another reservation. Then go back and cancel the original.

Ther is usually a thread on here for each month's car rental prices. Watch that to see what other people are finding, and try using the codes they use.

Do you have to be a Costco member to use their code? I would guess not- who's going to check?

I do get the Mousesavers newsletter so I'll try that first. Thanks for the tip about National too. I just want to avoid our experience with Budget at West Palm Beach a couple of years ago - had to take a bus out to rental area, then a LOOOOONG line to get checked in and get our car. We got an unbelievable rate for a minivan, but to wait well over an hour to get your car? Just not worth it.

Honestly, in Phoenix a couple years back I was asked for my Costco card by Alamo and this is not a lie. I have posted this here and on fatwallet. It is a big YMMV on that but it has happened. On FW someone was having a fit because they were asked for ID when returning a car on a code they weren't entitled to--they were asking for assistance since rate changed. So know it can happen--probably not often but it can happen on pick-up and even on return. If you can't produce it then they don't have to honor the rate---rate is based on info you give saying you qualify for XXXX discount code. If you don't have ID with you THEN they don't have to honor the rate and a credit card dispute won't get you very far. Just my story of being asked for ID which I did have thankfully in my purse (I normally take things like that out of billfold when going on vacation)!
