Is there any news of Aladdin ending at some point and a new show coming in or is it still running indefinitely?

At this point there is no end in sight.

The rumor I've heard is that they are going to put that show on the new Fantasy ship in March. That is unconfirmed and even if they did there is no reason why they couldn't have the show on the ship and in the park but the speculation was that it might be leaving the park for the ship.

Let me stress that this is pure rumor and speculation and I haven't followed up on it in weeks. I was following pretty close becasue I was going to be on the Fantasy in June of 2012 but I've moved that trip out to 2013 so I just don't watch that close any longer.

Any idea how soon they can get the carpet to fly again?

If and when the Disney lawyers allow it to happen. They are very lucky that the two performers who were up there were not seriously injured or killed, but that doesn't mean they don't have a potential lawsuit on their hands still. I'm sure they have to figure out why the system failed, what they can do to keep that from happening again in the future, and how they can better secure the actor and actress who are on the carpet so that in the event of a major malfunction they are not hanging on for dear life. Aladdin definitely saved Jasmine that day. And also, they need to ensure that the carpet will not cause further injury or death in the event of malfunction to the audience below.
I wonder if Disney has the ability to use animatronics on top of the carpet instead of live actors, and if so, would that decrease the weight on the carpet, would it decrease the risk of parts falling in the event of a malfunction, etc.
I do know however that the Disney legal team is all over this and it will not be back up and running until they get it all sorted out.

Interesting. I would assume the carpet won't fly on the DCL Fantasy ship until the Disneyland carpet situation is resolved.

Oh please, stop the exaggeration. They are harnessed in very securely. The carpet system has safety features that obviously work and kept the stunt doubles safe at all times.

Was wondering this very same thing as I cannot see any listings for Aladdin on the entertainment schedule beyond 3rd or 4th December. Is it normal for listing to not be complete at this point? ,m Only asking as I am visiting DL for the first time on 5th - 14th Dec, 2011 from Sydney, Australia and am obviously very new to all this.

Completely normal for the schedule of the beginning of December to still be incomplete at this point. As of right now, the schedule is only up through the 9th (could have sworn it was through the 18th last night when I checked, I think I may be losing it!!) and it doesn't look complete at all. I know it can be frustrating, I try to look at the anticipation as part of my vacation fun!

A year or two ago there were numerous discussions here and elsewhere of Aladdin closing as early as Sept. 2010 and being replaced with a Toy Story themed production. We were there in Aug. 2010 and several CM's had told us Aladdin would be closing soon. What happened to those rumors? Is Toy Story show still a go but waiting for Carsland to open?

I miss all the great shows they had at the Fantasyland amphitheater. Shows such as Dick Tracy, Pocohantas, Beauty and the Beast and others were excellent. Was great that they changed the show every couple years.

In a nutshell, it had to do with fan input, financing and the timing of the DCA Extreme Makeover.
If Aladdin had closed in 2010, the theater would have only gotten the little rehab that was included in the Hollywood makeover. But if the show continues, they can hold out for a bigger rehab a few years down the road.
*PLUS* there was a lot of fan backlash by folks who had seen both shows, and the Aladdin is generally accepted as the better show.

Aladdin is a great show but its getting old for me. Would you want your local theater showing the same awesome film over and over for years or want something new to see?

I loved the fact that the Fantasyland amphitheater changed its show every 2 years or so and miss its closing when Hyperion opened. Shows get old no matter how good they are.

I would love to see a new show there. We have seen it 4 times, and of course it is always great--but I know Disney could do justice to many other musicals. I think Beauty and Beast would make a great show--but really I would be happy with anything "new" to take my kids to.

For those who are able to go to Disneyland on a more frequent basis then others, I can see why you would want to see something different. However, there are huge numbers of people that have never been to see Aladdin and look forward to seeing it when they visit in the near future. So should we make POTC go away and replace it with something else because it has been around for too long? Or how about SM, or IASW? They have been around for a long time. Should they be replaced?

Here is my take on the carpet incident. It is a live show that includes "stunts" and special effects. The risk is obviously greater for there to be an "incident". The stunt Jasmine and Aladdin had to know there was a risk and that Disney had taken precautions to prevent them from falling in case of an emergency as what happened. If you are going to accept the paycheck, you have to assume the risk associated with it.

I think Aladdin is hands-down the best show in the Disney theme parks that I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. I know it's been around since 2003 but I'm in Florida and catching a viewing of it is one of the things I look forward to most at the resort.

Our Beauty & the Beast show has been around for 20 years now over at Disney's Hollywood Studios so I don't see a problem with Aladdin running at Hyperion for at least 10. But I do hope they re-use the Fantasyland Theater over in DL again soon and put another great production in there as well.

Given the fact that Aladdin always seems to be sold out, I would say the answer is "yes".

Your analogy to the local theater is not appropriate IMO. A better analaogy are Broadway shows which can go on for decades.

It was planned to stop running, but after considering it DLR changed it's mind. A long time ago the Disney Blog had post regarding this. I believe around August of 2010.

This rumor is most likely based on the rumors that follow the other post I quoted.

It was thought that DCL was getting new shows with the launch of the Disney Dream. IIRC one of the DCL shows being replaced would come to DCA. DCL would get an all new show to replace it. As it turned out DCA kept Aladdin, and DCL may of had nothing to do with anything in DCA.
