Before you start complaining how mean it is for only the rich to be able to afford to purchase offsets, you really should do the math.
This is interesting. There seems to be a plethora of websites that help you calculate your "carbon footprint". The interesting thing is that their "average" numbers are conflicting. The first site you linked say the average is 7.5 tons. Another one I found says it's 18 tons. that's a factor of 2 difference. If they can't get that right, how do they know how big or little the problem really is?
