Al Gore uses 20 TIMES as much electricity as you do

Have you calculated your carbon footprint yet? Here is a link for a calculator. http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/ After you have calculated your carbon footprint, this link tells you have to purchase offsets. http://www.nativeenergy.com/Splash/ClimateCrisis/ClimateCrisis.html?climatecrisis My offsets would be less than $400 per year and I have a decent size home and drive a SUV. Before you start complaining how mean it is for only the rich to be able to afford to purchase offsets, you really should do the math.

This is interesting. There seems to be a plethora of websites that help you calculate your "carbon footprint". The interesting thing is that their "average" numbers are conflicting. The first site you linked say the average is 7.5 tons. Another one I found says it's 18 tons. that's a factor of 2 difference. If they can't get that right, how do they know how big or little the problem really is?

Why not get rid of the SUV and "green up" your house? You don't because it's cheaper and you don't have to lift a finger or alter your lifestyle one bit. Then you get to claim "I'm GREEN!".

Sorry Kyle, that's not "walking the walk", it's ********.
I don't see where Kyle claimed to be living a great green lifestyle. He's certainly no Ed Begely Jr., but I think his point was that Al Gore isn't pushing for major lifestyle alterations, only to make some marginal changes which taken together could make a major difference. It's certainly better to do something than nothing.

Two questions and a follow-up:

1) Who's "alogre"?

2) What is a "hyporcirtical murderer"?

Follow-up: For that matter, what is a hypocritical murderer?

You can't make this stuff up. :lmao:

Very good Luvy.

You have nothing positive to add, but really, that's your point isn't it? You have no point.

You simply exist to personally attack others... It somehow makes you feel better, to belittle and demean others. That is such a sad way to go through life. You should see someone about your disposition...

Isn't that exactly what you just did? And, indeed, what I am in turn doing now?

20-room, eight-bathroom(not including the guest house...

I guess Drudge really expected him to live in an averaged sized house.

You mean an average size house like President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tx, which is heated and cool with geothermal pumps that circulate water from an underground 25K sistern that collects rain and gray water and is used for irrigation? His electric bill is 25% less than homeowners in the area. Maybe Al should give George a call! ;)

It's a vicious circle, isn't it?? Once the train gets moving, it can be hard to stop it.

It's just that Luvy et al. tear into people, viciously, for sport and never get called on it.

It's a sad commentary about their personalities.

If you can find a quote from 30 years ago showing Al Gore telling everyone to use solar panels, yes he WOULD be a hypocrite.

feel free to use google:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I've heard audio of him saying he's been trying to get this message out for 30 years. Wonder why it's taken him so long to become "green" as he claims to be today? :confused3 A lot of "green" technology has been around for quite a long time.

Considering the fact that he only spends 10 weeks a year at that ranch, his bill being 25% less than his neighbors isnt really impressive.

And the article in question does not mention what Gores neighbors pay, or what the average 20 bedroom estate pays.

Without the info we dont know what kinds of measures he has taken to reduce consumption, even though he has never preached any thing more than the obvious stuff like "leave the room, turn off the light".

I dont believe anybody is completely "green", if he claimed such I am sure he is mistaken. IF

I never saw his award winning movie, but is that the type of advice which garnered him an Oscar??

I never claimed to be green but I have made changes in my lifestyle recently to be more green. At my old house, my electricity bills were higher than the bills for the Gore house even though my house was one third the size. I have sold that house and have moved to a new home with a radiant barrier that should be a great deal more energy efficient. Energy efficiency was an important factor in my home selection and radient barriers make a great deal of difference down here during the summer.

As for my vehicle, I have been planning on getting a smaller vehicle now that I have not had to tow the scout trailer for almost a year (I nearly got drafted last month). Being green sounds like a great excuse to escape trailer duty for the scouts in the future.

At some point, I am going to look at carbon offsets. I disagree with the conservatives who think that these offsets are worthless.

The claim that the Gore home used 20 times the power of the average home is at best misleading and if one is honest, this claim is really pretty stupid (it did come from drudge and so what do you expect). You are compaing a 10,000 SF home and guest home to an average house and that is silly. If you have read any of the articles posted, you would have seen that the Gores are trying to make their home (a sixty year old house) more energy efficient. The fact that I had higher electricity bills in the summer compared to the Gores is very telling to me. Admittedly, my gas bill is very small because we do not have real winters. A larger home would have a larger carbon footprint compared to a smaller home and to compare the two is silly.

What took you long to post this. This has been on the free republic for some time.

Movie is about the "proof", effects, politics, economics, etc... of global warming.

The film ends with him saying that if actions are taken soon we can reverse the effects.

But he does not say anything about having to install solar panels, living in shacks and stop flying in jets.

Not true. I used WAY more power centrally heating the UK this winter.

Proof: Clicky

Rich::

I just got my gas bill. It's twice as much as last year (primarily because my dfi is home all day) but the average daily temp this month was 10 degrees COLDER than last year. So much for global warming.

What's funny is he uses like 20x as much power as us and yet he complains about global warming! He is the reason we even have global warming!

Global warming does not necessarily mean the temp will be warmer. It means that weather patterns will be less stable. In some areas, we will experience warmer temps and in some areas, the temp will be colder then normal.

Sorry about the gas bill that's a bummer.

Me too, I recycle hops byproducts!

What is being compared is the primary residence for a maried couple against the average family.

Big Al has made his choices, and good for him to live in his mansion, I'm good with that.

But don't turn around and try and tell anyone how good you are to the environment. For the love of Mike, no one's picking up what he's laying down!!!
