Al Gore uses 20 TIMES as much electricity as you do

:rotfl2: :rotfl: The fact that you do not understand the facts is sad. Rest assure that it is you who are wrong and your attempt to call me a liar is just plain sad.

Again, average joes do not pay any estate tax. It is the repugs who want to abolish the estate tax so that Paris Hilton and people like her can get a tax cut is wrong.

Again, it is amusing that the conservatives will defend preferential treatment for the rich except when that treatment involves a democrat.

Hey, don't refer to me as a repug and I won't refer to you as a dumocrat. :teeth:

...., but the question is whether or not he is practicing what he preaches within that scope.
Evidently you have trouble understanding what was posted on this thread. Again, Vice President Gore does practice what he preaches. As posted earlier http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/26/gore-responds-to-drudge/
Responding to Drudge’s attack, Vice President Gore’s office told ThinkProgress:

1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.

2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.
The article posted contains the carbon calculator to calculate your carbon footprint http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/ and how much offsets would cost http://www.nativeenergy.com/Splash/ClimateCrisis/ClimateCrisis.html?climatecrisis I hope that this is clear enough for you to understand.

Knock off the condescending attitude. I understand just fine, I simply don't agree with you. I don't believe that he is going to the lengths that he could, especially in comparison with his expectations for others.

Someone mentioned Ed Begley Jr and you have to hand it to that guy. For over 25 years he's been environmentally aware and takes real steps to help out the environment. No smoke screen and fancy terms like carbon offsets. He's the real deal.
Amen!

Hypocrisy or not? Anyone care to discuss?

POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET
:rotfl: :rotfl2: As I expected, this so called organization is a front for right wing idiots. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-johnson-and-james-boyce/a-far-too-convenient-mea_b_42171.html
Tennessee Center's President Drew Johnson comes straight out of the right's network, coming from Exxon-funded American Enterprise Institute and the right-wing-funded National Taxpayers Foundation.

They are part of the right's State Policy Network. According to PFAW,
"SPN is a national network of state-based right-wing organizations in 37 states as well as prominent nationwide right-wing organizations. Through its network SPN advances the public policy ideas of the expansive right-wing political movement on the state and local level."
As of Feb. 16, the Tennessee tax dept. considers them "not a legitimate organization" because of their misrepresenting themselves involving questions about the group's opposition to a state crackdown on drug dealers.

20-room, eight-bathroom(not including the guest house...

Holy **** (pun intended)! I don't even think the Duggars have that many bathrooms.

You have to love how someone can live in such ridiculous excess while preaching how we all should be environmentally friendly.

The thing is, I saw a couple on TV who built a home that uses NEGATIVE energy, because they have solar panels that generate enough to meet their needs....so obviously it CAN be done.

It begs the question: Is leaving large and living green mutually exclusive?

In a nutshell, yes. As for the intent of this thread, as the OP I will weigh in. The intent is to show the rampant hypocrisy involvled in presenting one's self in one way to the world but living under another set of values. All the carbon offsets in the world won't buy one's way out of the "sins" of over consumption. YMMV ;)

Ummm...if his monthly electric bill is THAT CHEAP for his MANSION....he is doing something right!!!:scared1:

Also a 20 room house isn't that big. Heck ours is 10 and our bill is half that. So it sounds normal.:confused3

His bill is only twice as much as mine. We pay $700 a month for electric and we don't have a mansion. Our house is only around 3500 sf. He must be really good at conserving electricity if his bill is that low for a mansion.

It's not about treatment; it's about saying one thing and doing another. Want an example from the GOP? Mark Foley.

What?! A right winger actually looked down on a fellow Rightwinger? Get this man some koolaid stat!;)

Honestly, I would say wait and see. If he wasn't planning on changing before, I am sure he will now after being slammed by the right.

I honestly think this is something silly to nitpick at.

I think yours is high for that size house. There's something seriously wrong at your house if you electric bill is $700! You might want to check that you aren't "leaking" electricty. Is your house totally electric? (heat and A/C)

My house is about 2000 sqft and the electric is an average of about $75 a month. Gas bill runs from about $20 to $100.

*EDITED TO ADD*

Nevermind ........... I thought UserName started this thread. :lmao:

Nothing wrong with my house. Our lovely state has decided to let the electric company double all bills now. They haven't had an increase in so long that they let them do it all at once. We have all new energy windows and it is well insulated. We also have a hot tub that runs all the time. My neighbor who has old windows has a monthly bill over $900. Gosh, my mom has an apartment and her bill is at leasdt $100 a month and she lives by herself. Taking in to account that our houses are all electric for heat and everything else. I'd have to live a in a box to get that price you are getting.

:lmao: Welcome to the "real America"...here in Texas we are being gouged beyond belief.
In fact TXU is in the news and they are being "bought out" and supposedly going to reduce our energy bills 10%...yea right.:lmao:

It should come as no surprise when celebrities and politicians (of all political persuasions) reveal themselves to be hypocrites.

Think of how much energy would be saved if every person at the award ceremonies two nights ago cut down to a minimum of 2000 sf and only one car per person and limited themselves to one or two flights per year? These people live high on the hog and then look down their noses at my miniscule SUV. They can bite me. :) AL Gore usues more energy every month than I use every 3 or 4 months. Not including his numerous private jet flights and motorcades, of course.

As usual, politicians and celebrities want the rules to apply, just not to them. I do not begrudge them their millions, but I sure wish they would shut the heck up.

And after Charade visits Texas, he ought to come down to SW Florida. With the size of the Gore house, I'm amazed they're using as little as they are.

Really. I can't believe Charade only has a $75 bill with a 2000 sf house. I haven't seen that cheap a bill in 35 years and that was at my mom's 1000 sf house.

The point IS, that if Al Gore wants to preach about environmental awareness, he should not be living in such a huge house. He may be using a small amount of energy compared to other extremely rich people living in excessively large mansions, but perhaps people would take hus message more seriously if he used a small amount of energy compared to the average American.

Carbon off sets, indeed.
