Al Gore uses 20 TIMES as much electricity as you do

I'm not trying to get past any filter. What you see is the filter, but if you don't believe me, report it to a mod.

I guess you didn't want to talk about your comment not being germane to the topic...

Never crossed their minds.

I have no clue what, if anything, they do to conserve energy. We're discussing Gore preaching how we should all live, but then he appears to apply a separate set of standards for himself. Obviously some of us consider it hypocrisy.

You're the one who made the accusation that I was trying to get around the board filter. So maybe you should give yourself a kick in the *** for sending it OT? :lmao:

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. And, IMO, Al Gore could live in a tent and the rightwing would find something to complain about.

You're right in regards to the far rightwing, just the same as the far leftwing will never admit to GWB doing anything worthy. I personally am only discussing this specific issue though and if I thought he was really walking the walk, I could respect him for that. I'm just not convinced that he is on this subject.

Luvy, Luvy. You're comments about the Vice President's hunting prowess and the President's whatever ( I have no idea what you were getting at) is what I was referring to. Nice try though.

This is a thread about algore's hypocrisy, not the President and Vice President.

Please, follow the Swede's advise, let's try and stay on topic.... And please quit swearing, actual or implied. I doesn't lend much to your position..

Maybe something else, but there wouldn't be much to say about this.

There are a few issues near and dear to my heart and I am often found 'preaching' about them. For example, spay/neutering your animals and open and non-judgemental discussion of birth control and sexuality with your kids, early on.

If I let my cats or dog run around unaltered, if I never talked about BC with my kids...I would be a hypocrite and should expect criticism. It wouldn't mean much if I just donated to shelters and talked to other peoples kids about BC. You walk the walk when you make an issue your thing.

I really don't care that Al Gore has a few enormous houses, but I would be lying if I didn't say he is being a hypocrite when he talks about how imperative it is to 'live green'...sorry, he is living in excess. Great for him, but it does not reflect what he is preaching. That's all.

I'll take Swede's advice and keep this discussion on topic and serious and say goodbye to you.

It begs the question: Is leaving large and living green mutually exclusive? Does one have to live in a shack, without electricity or running water to be considered a conservationist? At what point do you stop being a conservationist? Is the line drawn at an 1800 sq ft house or can it go up to 2500 sq ft?

Really, IMO, this isn't a serious discussion about conservation or going green. This is political mudslinging and, frankly, I've got no problem with that either. But, let's be honest and admit it.

I really don't have a problem with Al Gore. Never did. This is hypocritical, but not something I find outrageous only amusing because of his stance (which I don't agree with anyways).

There is an in between....shack/mega-mansion. Most of us are living it. Not sure why he couldn't live in a more average size house, considering he is so into everyone living 'green'. That is why I said it looks like he likes convenience too. If he didn't make such a big deal of it, I wouldn't think twice about his living arrangements.

I think it is. It's the ultimate hypocritical and elitist attitude for someone to preach to others about conservation and then live (even with offsets, the new "buzz" word for liberal elites) in a mansion that would support five or more families when there's just one living there.

Really, IMO, this isn't a serious discussion about conservation or going green. This is political mudslinging and, frankly, I've got no problem with that either. But, let's be honest and admit it.

And with a smile!!!

do not get the full benefit of bush's tax cuts for the rich.

There you go again.

Fact: The rich are now shouldering even more of the income tax burden. From 2000 to 2004, the share of all individual income taxes paid by the bottom 40% of taxpayers dropped from 0% to -4%, meaning that the average family in those quintiles received a subsidy. The share paid by the top 20% of households increased from 81% to 85%.

Stop spreading lies. You're a smart guy. It's beneath you.

Not true. I have deep respect for Ed Begley Jr. He's not exploiting the topic for political gain, for profit, or for fame. He walks the walk.

Al Gore is a lying hypocrite.

Sorry to get off topic for a moment.

When I saw the word germane it made me think of a classic movie line.

Sheriff Branford: The fact that you are a sheriff is not germane to the situation.
Buford T. Justice: The g** d*** Germans got nothin' to do with it.

Back to the originally discussed topic.:rotfl2:

To those of you who have disagreed with this thread and think it's just a case of right wingers needing something to sling some mud against, you're off base. At least with me .

I'm going to come out and say it. I don't feel anyone should have a excessively large house, especially when they don't need it. They also don't need to own a couple of homes in different areas of the country and then turn around and preach about the environment. Those homes all need to cooled or heated during the year and it's a waste of resources, especially when the home isn't used all that often. My family has made serious changes in our vehicles and our driving habits, yet we don't preach to anyone else.

I was reading Men's Health magazine one day at the doctor last year and Tom Brokaw interviewed Harrison Ford and the subject of his three private planes and two helicopters came up. Mr Ford, who shares Al Gore views, admitted that his private fleet wasn't good for the environment, but he gave carbon credits to offset it. Come on, that's a load of garbage and a classic case of do as I say, not as I do. I'm sorry there is a good segment of the American people who aren't going to buy that nonsense. That's like a wife beater giving money to a battered woman's shelter. It doesn't excuse the original crime or make it better after the fact.

If there's sacrifices to made we all have to do it. No more private jets, no more multiple big homes, and no SUV's either. If you're going to preach/talk to the public about the environment, then you definitely have to have to walk the walk. Someone mentioned Ed Begley Jr and you have to hand it to that guy. For over 25 years he's been environmentally aware and takes real steps to help out the environment. No smoke screen and fancy terms like carbon offsets. He's the real deal.

Didn't read all the replies

But how deos his mansion compare in utility costs to others the same size. Maybe he has cut his consumption drasticaly.

Mikeeeee

:rotfl2: :rotfl: The fact that you do not understand the facts is sad. Rest assure that it is you who are wrong and your attempt to call me a liar is just plain sad.

Again, average joes do not pay any estate tax. It is the repugs who want to abolish the estate tax so that Paris Hilton and people like her can get a tax cut is wrong.

Again, it is amusing that the conservatives will defend preferential treatment for the rich except when that treatment involves a democrat.
