We are staying at the AKL with a standard savanna view.I was wondering if one savanna is "better" than the others. My kids 4 & 5 love animals and they are more excited about the hotel than anything else. I assume that you can not request a specfic savanna but I thought it can't hurt to ask at check -in. We are leaving in two weeks, thanks for your help.

We really liked the Arusha Savannah - it is the main savannah, and I liked being able to see the whole semicircle of the lodge and the Arusha Rock from our balcony. Request an Arusha Savannah room on Zebra trail, close to the elevators. That will get you a convenient room close to the restaurants and pool. The other side of the Arusha Savannah is the Kudu trail - that could be a long walk to the food and pool, depending on where you are. The AKL is very large. Have fun - it is a beautiful resort that really lived up to the hype.

Definately request the Arusha Savanna view, it has pretty well everything but ostriches ~ in all my walks around AKL I just was never thrilled with what I saw on the sunset savanna.

Have fun,

We liked the Sunrise Savannah just fine.
Saw lots of giraffe all the time!

I'm trying to post a pic, with no luck, though!

In March we stayed on the Zebra trail, facing out (Uzima savannah, I think) and we loved it. We would sit on the balcony and watch the animals in the mornings (early mornings, as we have little ones). We were also pretty close to the pool and restaurants. I don't think you can go wrong with a savannah view!

Have a great trip!

Mainbound ~ (I think) you mean the Arusha savanna which is the main savanna ~ the other view from Zebra Trail is Poolview.

Here is a map to help - with the savannas marked.

gosh, now I'm really confused. We were about where room 4515 is on the map you linked. We did not face into the semi-circle (where it is marked "arusha Savannah"), but out. We most definitely had two connecting savannah view rooms. That's the Arusha Savannah?

Hi there - okay I see where your room is and it faces the savanna adjacent to the Uzima Pool area - so I guess you are absolutely correct that is the Uzima Savanna - somehow I thought that area was also Arusha as they connect too - but I guess there are fences and that area is it's own savanna... did you see any zebra there?

Hi!

Thanks for posting the link to the map.

You can think of the AKL as being divied into two trails-the zebra and Kudu with Savannah's on either side of the trail.

For example on the "left" side of the zebra trail (Left as in the way you are walking toward your room away from the lobby) is the Arusha Savannah. The Arusha Savannah is horseshoe shaped and has the Arusha Rock viewing area that can be accessed from the lobby. Beautiful zebras, giraffes and the other animals are seen on this savannah.

To the "Right" of the Zebra trail is first the poolview area and then a bit further down is the Uzima savannah. The Uzima savannah has giraffes etc on this one. No Zebras but you can easily go out to the Arusha Rock to view them during your stay.

We have stayed on both sides of the Zebra trail. Both offer excellent views. The Uzima savannah may be a bit quieter than the Arusha savannah which is really the "center" of the resort.

We like staying on the Zebra trail vs the Kudu trail because of the closer access to the restraurants-Mara, Boma and Jiko. Also the laundary room and the pool are located on this trail as well.

Agree with previous poster to request a room closer to the lobby as a room at the end of Zebra trail can be quite a walk.

Our room request for our trip this past June was for; Zebra trail, Uzima savannah, as close to the lobby as possible, 4th floor.

Have a great trip and enjoy this beautiful resort!

We stayed on the zebra trail. We had room 2527, it was perfect. The best savanna (Arusha [I think]), and it was right by the watering hole, so animals would be very close.

We saw kudu, giraffes, birds. Plenty of animals, many of which came quite close to the building.

And, as others have pointed out, there are many areas from which to view Arusha savannah. every time we walked to or from our room, we passed large windows overlooking the Arusha savannah. And you can always walk out onto Arusha rock.

We enjoyed our rooms very much, but I agree that the Arusha savannah has a special ambiance, a kind of hush, that is unique. We could hear and sometimes see vehicles on the road going by AKL in the distance. I think overlooking Arusha seems a bit more secluded.

On the other hand, because we were travelling with my mom who is elderly and has ambulatory issues, our rooms on the Zebra trail was perfect because it was relatively close to the pool and restaurants. I guess it all depends on what your particular needs are.
