...OMG, yes he is!!! And guess what?? He called before from KIDANI!!!!! He and his [lip-piercing - (...remember HER??)] GF went to check it out and he said that it was AMAZING!!!! He took loads of pix so I can't wait till he gets back....

Awesome! I saw your post on one of the Kidani threads. I think that you need to find a way so go along with them next year.

I thought I'd join in on this thread.

We just booked AKL for the very first time a couple of days ago. This will be our first trip to a Disney resort with our entire family (DW, DS9, DD5 and myself). We visited AKL twice by having dinner at Jiko but honestly have never had the budget to stay there. We were in awe the first time we visited. The level of detail that Disney has but into that resort is just increadible. The last 3 times we stayed at Disney we were at the Swan and Dolphin resorts (and I was lucky to do that via a conference through my work). So this will truely be a treat for our family. We haven't told our kids yet but I can't wait to see the looks on their faces. It will be priceless absolutely priceless!

Welcome! I completely agree with you about AKL -- the level of detail, the sounds, the smells, the sights the Disney put into AKL is amazing! We felt the same way when we entered for a dinner at Boma and we knew that AKL would be the next place we stayed. We tried it out in April and just loved it... It's so special. I think it will be a great treat for your family!

You are welcome! sounds like you have a fantastic trip planned! I just looked briefly at the links in your signature and wanted to say that you have a fantastic family. I can understand that leaving the kids will be difficult, but I hope you have an absolutley wonderful stay at AKL!!

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days. It is RECITAL TIME and I am swamped until next Sunday. I have been reading along but not really taking time to post. Thought I would rectify that this morning with a big HI!

We are staying in a Savannah room, do I need to make a request or are they all about the same? Thanks for all the great info, we're excited about our stay. Any pictures of views?

There is an actual thread devoted to AKL photos...sorry, but I don't have the link. You can do a search for it, or maybe someone else can post it for you (everyone is very helpful here). It is a perfect thread to get you excited about your upcoming stay. Also, check the photography board. I'm sure you can find some there.

First, let me say JAMBO!....there is more than one savannah, so you should be more specific about your request.....different savannahs have different animals on them, so you are better off requesting "Ostrich Trail", Zebra Trail", etc. rather than a 'savannah'...

I'm a coffee-snob, too, and always take my own supply (including 4-cup filters - seems to be the standard for hotel rooms). The next best thing to sliced bread was Starbucks putting bagged coffee in grocery stores.

Torsie, Mara is actually next to the pool, it has a cute outside seating area:

But you could easily cary your tray just a few yards further to the tables by the pool bar.

Also, you can take the tray from Mara up to your room and eat on the balcony. Housekeeping will take the tray with them, when they clean the room. We did that every morning:

We've done this too-DH went down with DD and brought back breakfast and I was able to leverage the time to get done with DS...It's really nice being able to breakfast and have coffee from your balcony......Nice photos...(I think the seating outside of Mara really pleasant also...)



Hope you don't get any flooding or so! Regarding coffee: yes, you need filters, they only provide the pod coffee as you assumed. If I remember correctly, there were actually two black mugs provided with the coffee maker, so you don't necessarily buy mugs at Zawadi. Unfortunately Mara does not sell any special coffee, only the usual Disney stuff.

Yes I'm going to bring my own aka 70s guy-Starbucks even makes a Kenyan blend...-but I will buy the AKL mugs so when I go home and drink coffee in them...if I squint my eyes really tight and look out in the back-I can pretend that I'm there....

Another Senior Recital is finished and we have pushed the birds out of their nice comfy piano nest. I still have 14 more recitals to get through by this time next Sunday evening. Then I have a couple of weeks off and we are headed to the Outer Banks for our annual beach vacation.

Mara doesn't sell the good coffee, but as of January, at least, Zawadi sold the ground Kenya, both regular and decaf. That's always my first stop!

From one Nittany Lion to another....yes, you would have access to things at Kidani, which would be basically the pool. But it's a bit of a walk -- .35 miles from main entrance to main entrance, according to someone who walked it with a GPS.
