AKL Bush Camp...anybody have kids who have been? I am looking for some input as to how they liked it, what they did, what they loved about it.

TIA!!!:thumbsup2

I'd love to hear some comments too. We are heading to AKL in Sept and would like to see what people say about Bush Camp as well.

One last bump for the night crew...maybe an answer is out there! ;)

What if I say please really nice like, will that help get replies?
Please........

I don't think this program was very popular. It was never really advertised well. I believe the reason AKL/Disney opened it up to all Disney World guests was because of the lack of AKL guest participation.

I'm curious to hear anyone's opinion on this as well. I'm considering it for October when we stay at AKV.

My daughter, age 10, and my friend's daughter, age 8, got to do this during Easter Week. They enjoyed it but felt it would be more fun for younger children. I believe it's for ages 4-12. 4-8 might be a better range but each child is different... The girls really liked getting to sample some African foods (which they convinced us moms to sample in Boma that evening) and they got to learn a bit about African animals... They gave them cute safari guide straw hats and walked them around different areas of the resort; they did a craft but they did so many crafts that week that I am not sure which one was at the camp... they got cute little knapsacks, a small stuffed animal (monkey in my dd's case), a photo taken with Timon who stopped by:) they were enjoying Mickey bars when we went to retrieve them :thumbsup2
I think I would recommend it for younger children if you're staying at AKL and planning to spend the day at the resort and need a little adult time to yourself.

THNAK YOU!! Was it this past Easter that your daughter did it? Anybody else?

The cut off is actually 14. I am wondering if I should cancel ours now. We are staying at AKL this summer for the kids bdays and have it scheduled for my DD 13 and DS 11.

:) I am interested in more info as well. My DD will be a month away from her 8th birthday on our next trip and would really enjoy this. How much is this one? She has done BBB and the Pirate's Cruise in the past so always looking for something new for her. Thanks! :wizard:

It is 70 and only offered Saturday think the times are 1 to 3 or 4.

:) Thanks!! We will only have one full Saturday there and I planned on it being an Epcot day. Now I'll have to talk to my DD and see if it is worth switching things around. :rolleyes1

:) Anyone with reviews on this one? I want to hear more opinions before I book anything. Thanks! :wizard:

I just signed my DS up for BUSH CAMP Labor Day weekend (Sept 07) and he's 6 years old. So I'll see how he likes it and let everyone know (plus I'll TRY and get some pictures though parents don't stay).

Well, my son went to Bush Camp and he LOVED IT!

They got a bunch of stuff (I have pictures of it all, just need to find a place to post it on-line) to include:

-Aussie style hat
-little bush camp bag (cheap)
-bush camp certificate
-some animal stickers/pencils
-small stuffed lion
-animal print bracelets
-really small rubber lizard
-african bracelet (that they made themselves)
-animal conservation button ($20 of the $70 fee goes to the animal conservation fund)
-signed photo of Timon and Rafiki
-personal polaroid photo with Timon and one of the Bush Camp employees (and my DS)!!!

They start out in Simba's Clubhouse (the same place they have the daycare in the evening) and it starts at 1pm and ends at 4pm. They checked him in and gave us a beeper and asked us where we were going to be at (though they could reach us by beeper if needed).

I asked my DS (who is only 6 mind you) what all they did and he said:
-they made bracelets
-they learned about the animals that they have at AKL
-they got to view the animals (there is a viewing window right in the room and they also went outside to see them once it stopped raining)
-Timon (in costume) showed up and played with them. They played 'Simon says' and also danced with him (as a group). And then they got their own individual picture with him
-they ate a snack/lunch
-they watched a movie (The Incredibles)

So I could see how any child over 10 would probably be bored but kids under 10 would probably LOVE IT. Every time we walked past Simba's Clubhouse while we were there (which was quite often) he kept asking to go back!

Obviously he loved it and I would happily sign him up again!

any updates on this? my son is 12 - may be too old? but loves African culture and animals -- anyone do this with kids about 12 or so?

It should be noted that this program changed in July 2008 - it is now a 2 hour program, not 3, and no food or characters are included. The cost is now $30.

(Although I've seen some posts that indicated kids doing the program in the summer got to taste some food from Boma. Don't know if it was before July though)
