AKL ---- AK park tours

I read something a few years back about a special park tour for AKL guests.

I recall that AKL guests could enter the AK prior to the park opening time and were given a special escorted safari ride.

Does anyone know about this or something like it.

It's for concierge guests only, costs extra, and is called the Sunrise Safari. It's an early morning ride through Kilimanjaro Safari Ride. I believe they offer an evening one as well.

During our Christmas trip my sister and I took an AK tour called Backstage Safari. It is open to anyone - it think it was around $65 not including park admission. It was really fascinating. We got to see where the animals sleep, some of the vet facilities. Our guide, Paul (I think) was great and explained so much about the way the park was built with conservation in mind, how they treat the animals, etc. We got to see elephants getting their morning bath. We also got to go on a special version of the Safari ride - instead of the typical storyline our guide pointed out to us the way the animals are kept to certain areas, what they like to eat, how they are trained to come "home" every night, etc. It was great and I would highly recommend it!

It is around 50 per person (less for kids), and includes a big breakfast buffet at Tusker House. It is the safari ride without the rehearsed dialog and such. We are planning on doing it this trip and we're really excited!
