DH is being a peach and agreed to go to a princess meal. (It's just DH and I.) So I decided on Akershus b/c it fits nicely into a late lunch slot one day and I personally haven't been there in years, and used to love it! But he can be a picky eater and when I told him it was Norway, he said no thanks - even though they have things like chicken.

I've sent him the menu to see, but I'm wondering if you've had any good experiences with entrees there - that aren't "weird"? :scared:

I'm not too worried if he doesn't like the cold buffet; I think he'll be happy with entree & dessert plate.

I had the pasta and it was basically giant ravioli in a cream sauce (and it was REALLY good). The traditional kjottkake are basically giant meatballs served with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce is similar to cranberry sauce. And sauteed chicken breast.. well, it's sauteed chicken.

I think some of the more traditional things are at the salad bar, but he doesn't have to eat anything that doesn't appeal. They do have various smoked fish and things, but there was also bread, fruit and some kinds of salads.

If you have a IKEA take him there to eat! HAHA! Its basically the same style of food!
I LOVE LINGORBERRY Sauce!!

IKEA has Swedish meat balls with potato (Like those new potatoes from the can) and brown gravy with Lingonberry sauce!
I figure If I can eat IKEAS Swedish food I should be good to go with Storybook Princess LUNCH !! LOL

I was so nervous about the food that we almost didn't go, but it was SO GOOD! It was 1 of my favorite meals on the trip. We went for dinner, but I can't imagine lunch is so different.

They have really taken the authenticity down a number of notches over the past number of years so even if things sound weird they'll look like normal food to him. On our last trip the buffet had many many basic offerings like pasta salad, fruit salad, cheese, lunch meats, and very very few fish dishes maybe 3 and then shrimp salad which I think is not really authentic anyway (shrimp, mayo, and dill).

My girlfriend had the mushroom-stuffed pasta and she really liked it and she can be picky. I had the salmon burger and it was pretty good, not fantastic but better than a lot of other meals I have had there. I just felt that the arugula was a little over-powering for the dish. The cold appitizer buffet was good (we mostly stuck with the fresh fruit and cheese) but I tried some other things that were good. I really liked the dessert plate they brought out as well. The princesses spent a lot of time at our table (just me and my girlfriend). They all wanted to make sure I was treating her like the princess she is and were very fun. We kind of threw it into one of our EPCOT days for lunch and we really enjoyed it.

they have really dumbed down the authenticity of the food here since they have taken over with princesses. So while many things might "sound" odd, they are most certainly not that out of the ordinary.

I concur with everyone else. Durin my last trip in Sept., everyone at our table got the kjottkake. We all enjoyed it, even tho I was expecting something different. Still good tho. I loved the cold buffet slightly more, mainly cause smoked salmon is my kryptonite! lol

My mother, who qualifies as the pickiest eater I've ever seen, found something on the menu she enjoyed. As a previous poster mentioned, it is really just made to sound like "foreign" food, but it was really pretty similar to other foods that people are used to. The pasta was good, the one dish is really just a big swedish meatball, and I seem to remember there was a chicken dish that turned out to be something tame.

Overall, I liked the food and it was nice for something different.

We used to love to eat in Norway. It had more traditional Norwegian and Swedish favorites back in the day. I love the traditional foods that my grandparents made. There was moose, elk, mashed rudebages and all sorts of herring and seafood. The first time we ate there I was up at the buffet and the chef was wondering if I knew what I was taking. Yup. Once he found out that I was from Minnesota and had a Swedish Grandmother who cooked traditional foods he started to point out some choices for me to try that I might miss. He was very helpful in guiding me to my family roots.

Now the menu is more americanized and very few traditional foods. I miss the old buffet. Not that many "Weird" foods on the menu anymore.

Enjoy!
