Akershus...Good or Bad??

It was the best buffet you can get on WDW property, I think.
Too bad they're messing it up. I'd go even if they still had princesses, but if they're changing the food, no thanks. I understood the switch from a hot and cold buffet to all-cold.

Why couldn't they have choosen a country that already has two restaurants rather than ruining a country that has just one, I thought the idea of WS was to show other countries their traditions, culture and food? By changing to a character meal this will be totally lost. Both DH and I loved Akershus as the food was different to what we normally eat on holiday and was more of an adult atmosphere.

Claire.. ITA... one of our favourite dining experiences over recent years.. and now, given the ages of our kids, i doubt we will return... bad enough that all meals will now be Princess based.. but do away with the buffet?

Anyone see any point at this late stage of petitioning WDW to change their minds? At least with regard to the buffet?

I think I'll write to Disney as well. As much as I love visiting WDW it seems that everytime we go, something special has either been discontinued or lost it's quality.

Anyone remember the days when after a sit down meal they'd bring you a nice little piece of chocolate with the bill? Little touches like that added something special.

I'd like to write to Disney too about the changes in Askerhus. This had been one of my favorite things to do at Disney (not just for the food, but the atmosphere and friendly staff).

Does anyone know how to address customer service, either through email or snail mail? They must keep that info totally burried on their site, as I simply can not find it!

I think that would be a great idea.I think they have chosen Akershus because it is a large restaurant and that equals maximum $s. It is unique in WDW, offering food that is very different to the standard fare. My kids love it and are heartbroken that this is happening. Why not H and V at MGM? Why were the character meals stopped there? Now there are no character meals in the park. I am one angry person!
A petition would be a great idea. I too feel that the boys should be catered for more at these affairs - and I have both boys and girls.

I think it will be too late to change it, but it's worth a letter, that's for sure!!

I wasn't planning on writing, but I think now I will. Is it just me, or wouldn't it have made more sense to make Cinderella's Royal Table all princesses all the time as opposed to Akershus??

I wish I could dine there one more time before the changeover-- but it's just not in the cards

This is a revolting development. Wasn't the whole idea of opening restaurants in World Showcase an atttempt to broaden American culinary experiences? I bet $10 that the Akerhus managers got tired of hearing complaints that the food was "yucky" and "cold" and "bizarre" and said the hell with it and went with a cost-effective option.

Oh Gosh, I often step out of the box, but we both (hubby and I) didn't like this at all. We thought the meats were all strange tasting. It's the only place at Disney we won't return to.

I completely agree! My Dad and I love to eat anything and we would not go back here. For the price I would much rather eat somewhere else. The cold bar selections weren't very good and the food they bring to you was ok. I think I ended up just eating one of the cold bar selections and just eating that until I was full.

Love this place. I did get to go there last week for one last time. I won't darken their door when they change it over. I will also be writing to Disney.
Why can't they just use the old Odessey restaurant building?

DH and I tried this about year ago and it was definately one of the worst meals we have ever had. And we eat the opposite and NEVER agree on food.

However, now that they are changing it to a princess dinner, we will be giving it another try in May. Even if the food is still bad, our DD will have fun seeing the princesses.
