I have read the menu at allearsnet.com, but that doesn't really tell me a lot. And are there kid foods like mac-n-cheese or hot dogs? I'm just nervous about spending so much money on something I'm not going to like. DH likes seafood, so I'm sure he'll have plenty. I don't. Will I still have choices?

Akershus has been very good. Different, but if you can step outside your box you can find some real interesting stuff.

In April, Akershus is going to be a character meal at all meals, so I don't know what that will do to the food quality.

Was there for dinner two weeks ago. I love the place. But it is very authentic Scandinavian food. The Lamb was very good. The fish or sea food is excellent. Many different cold bar selections. Great choice if you dont want the ordinary.

The Akershus is my FAVORITE restaurant. I am making a special trip to WDW in 2 weeks JUST so I can eat here again before it turns into the character buffet.

I agree w/ solotravler...if you are a bit adventurous...it is awesome. My boys, who were 6 and 8 at the time, loved it.

The atmosphere is great too!

It is my ABSOLUTE favorite. It is the same with the kids. We are all adventurous eaters and all love fish. Its a gem! We just have to visit it at least twice on our visit to WDW :teeth:

Oh Gosh, I often step out of the box, but we both (hubby and I) didn't like this at all. We thought the meats were all strange tasting. It's the only place at Disney we won't return to.

Hi,

The little Viking Menu offers

*Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly Sandwich with Goldfish Crackers*
*Meatballs with Pasta and Tomato Sauce*
*Hot Dog with Soft Potato Bread with corn and Goldfish Crackers *:Pinkbounc
*Macaroni and Cheese* :Pinkbounc

We love trying new foods, and I really enjoy fish/seafood. However the food just all had a strange tase to us. DS ordered a kids meal, and we ended up eating what he didn't eat so we would leave starving.

DBf and I LOVED Akershus. We also were looking for something different than what we'd normally eat anywhere else and felt the value was great. The cold buffet had lots of options, I thought...different breads, cheeses, salads and the salmon I got for my main dish was probably the best salmon I'd ever tasted! Totally delish!

I havent heard about it turning into a character dining restaurant tho, what changes will be made specifically, besides having characters walk around during the meal?

Isn't it true that you can ask your server for hot items as well? Have any of you ever done this? Can you order more than one hot item?

Yes, the cold bar is set up for you to go back and forth as many times as you'd like. But you have to actually order the hot food from your server, and you can keep ordering more. :)

Yes, you order the hot meal from your table waitress. What is great about this place is that you can order as many meals as you want to eat! One price! So, when my DS didn't like what he ordered, he ordered something else. It was some chicken dish. He ended up loving this one and ordered another! Sort of like on the cruise, where you can order as many as you like, all included.

We actually loved this place. Very authentic. I hope when/if they change it to a character meal, they don't lose too much of the integrity of the original restaurant.

According to the manager they are eliminating the buffet for the character meals. The waiter will bring a "tower" of three plates with appetizers to the table for "family style" serving but will refill any or all as requested. In addition you will still have your choice of hot dishes. He did not tell me if desserts will be included in the fixed price.

He said that lunch will be $2-$3 more than the current Princess Storybook Breakfast (which is $21.99) and that no price had yet been set for dinner. IMHO since Lunch will be about $23-$24, I would expect dinner to be $29-$30.

The CM I made PS with for the Princess Lunch said adults would be $23.99, children (3-11) would be $12.99 or $13.99; I believe he said the dinner would be $27.99 and the children still $12.99. I had to give my credit card as a deposit and if we don't show up and don't give 48 hours notice, my card will be charged $10 per person.

I will miss Akershus. I doubt we will return once it goes all princess.

Last weekend we met two couples for dinner. The one gal is a finicky eater.
The chef came out. At her request he made her a plate of fettucine alfredo with a chicken breast on top. She was very pleased.

We all really enjoyed our meal. :goodvibes

I'm very sad to hear about the change to a character meal. I really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, and felt this restaurant offered a good value. The cold buffet (which I hear is going away) was my favorite part, since I'm big on salads and fresh vegetables. The new higher pricing along with fewer offerings makes it too expensive for what you'll be getting.

This had been my favorite restaurant. :(

I too will miss Akershus when they go all Princess all the time. It was one of our favorites in terms of food and ambience, so we are disappointed.

Why couldn't they have choosen a country that already has two restaurants rather than ruining a country that has just one, I thought the idea of WS was to show other countries their traditions, culture and food? By changing to a character meal this will be totally lost. Both DH and I loved Akershus as the food was different to what we normally eat on holiday and was more of an adult atmosphere.
Hmm not very happy and will be writing to WDW :(
Claire ;)
