1. what would be the fastest way to get from Animal Kingdom to Hoope Dee Do?
2. we have tickets for the 4pm show, how much time should I allow for traveling from AK to the show?

1. Take the bus from AK to MK. Then the boat from MK to Ft. Wilderness. Pioneer Hall is a short walk from the boat dock.

2. I'd give yourself between 60 and 90 minutes to get there, you could run into waits for a bus or a boat.

Is there a bus from AK to MK? I wasn't sure. If not, you could take the bus to the Contemporary. There is a boat from the Contemporary to Fort Wilderness.

There are direct buses between all of the parks (Epcot<>MK is the monorail.)

Actually, the better RESORT trip choice is bus from DAK to Wilderness LODGE,
boat to Ft. Wilderness/Hoop.

Or the bus, or walking trail between WL and FtW.

I would plan on 90 minutes. 60 might not be enough. We recently had to get to Hoop Dee Do from MK and it took 40 minutes from the time we exited park to the time we set foot on the dock at Ft. Wilderness because the boat was full and we had to wait for the next one.

I am not sure it would be any faster taking bus to MK then boat to Hoop esp if you have to wait for second boat or just miss boat than to just take the bus to Fort Wilderness and then the internal bus to Hoop. either way I would be at bus stop for either bus no later than 2:30. also remember that boats close in stormy weather and you would have to use buses

Agree. The internal FtW buses run about every 5 minutes from the Outpost (bus depot) to the Settlement (Hoop De Doo), and almost never fill to capacity.

The bus to WL is also a good option. The bus from WL to FtW runs about every 15 minutes, and rarely has more than 10 guests on board. The exception would be when the boats are shut down, because then the bus may also go to MK to replace them.

Sounds like 2 main options (lumping boats together), is that correct?

1) bus from Animal Kingdom to Fort Wilderness, internal Fort Wilderness bus to Settlement
2) Bus to either a) Wilderness Lodge, b) Contemporary or c) MK and ferry to Fort Wilderness which delivers to essentially the Settlement

Would experienced DISers go option 2 and take the a,b or c bus on a first come basis to minimize travel time? Still 90 minutes this way? Or is this more scenic but slower than option 1?
Follow-up: Is one of the boat options faster assuming you don't miss one just leaving? Obviously devil is in how long you wait for the boat I would assume. Thanks in advance - have this situation upcoming for the 6:15 show post AK.

If you are at AK and waiting for a bus, there are different bus stop spokes, so you won't necessarily have the luxury of taking the first bus of those choices. Personal choice for us: We always get to MK and take the boat from MK to the Fort to go to HDDR. The boat launch is well marked, and it's hard to make a mistake. Plus -- we like the boat ride out to the Fort. Second choice would be boat from Wilderness Lodge to the Fort.

The few times we went from CR, it seemed slower and it was pretty buggy on the marina. Could have been our (repeated) bad luck.

90 minutes is safe. 60 could work, but more stressful, and you risk missing photopass pictures before HDDR.

I would do #1 as #2 would mean walking from bus stop to boat dock which are not same place

taking first bus was talking about internal campground buses not AK buses. if you are doing any choice that includes boat ride I would allow double the time for boat part as it never fails just missing the boat happens and you will wait at least 20 minutes esp at MK plus wheelchairs and ECVs off before you can get off

Sorry for causing any confusion! I should have quoted the post to which I was replying when I mentioned not having easy choice of first come basis bus at AK bus stop:

I agree that you can easily miss the boat -- and watching it cruise away is a less than fantastic feeling!!

my guess #2 would be the longest time wise in that after you get of them you would have to walk from one transportation to the next.. where buses are at same spot in #1 and if you are lucky a bench to wait on depending on how many others are waiting. you can use any of the internal 3 routes. the buses will stop to let others on or off at the loops on that route. the 90 minutes option 2 c would be from getting on at AK not counting on the wait for that bus

Helen - I totally got it and appreciate the response - you would personally choose option 2 and bus to MK from AK and then ferry from there. Doesn't sound like the bus setup at AK allows you to see all the outlined buses options and pick whichever is first, which makes sense. - so you have to make a bet and get in a line. And makes total sense if you just miss a boat you have to wait and that adds decent time. Feels like the best experience would be to bus to MK and ferry from there and if you caught all the bus and ferry right its about an hour, but if you had to wait max times for both 1.5 hours most likely.

Curious how you guys would compare that time estimate to just busing to Ft Wilderness and then taking the internal bus to HDDR in that time (realizing you are losing the scenic boat)? That's my AK day and trying to squeeze last attraction or 2 optionally (depending on how my 5 and 8 yer old girls are doing) in possibly beofre heading to HDDR.

thanks Betty - you answered my question before i posted. Sounds like if we are having a good park day the bus and bus option 1 maximizes time, option 2 if we are cranky and leaving the park earlier and taking the scenic route and resting makes sense
