New! Effective September 1, 2010, for all coach class reservations made after August 16, 2010, the charge for a first checked bag is $20 with size and weight limitations

Bet people will be happy when Southwest takes over, as long as it goes through, to get 2 free bags under 50 lbs each.

Naturally, I just loathe the baggage fees. :( I hope Southwest does take over and I hope they stay true to their word not to charge fees on bags too.

when is southwest taking over? or if they are......I have to take a trip in March...or will it not be until 2012?
We don't have southwest in Dayton, Ohio....:confused3

Note that this happened over 2 months ago.... so I wouldn't say it is exactly new......

I hadn't realized that, but overheard the RAC employee discussing it with a guest on Friday morning at the BCV when the guest was paying for her luggage. The RAC employee kept saying it was $20 while the guest was saying it was $15. So that must've been what the issue was.

Nope! We paid $20.00 each way when we went to WDW in Oct. OP scared me.:rotfl: I thought maybe they were going up again. I paid $15.00/bag last May.

That was my first thought when I saw the subject line.... I was glad to see that luggage fees had not gone up, AGAIN! whew!

Our Local airport has Airtran. and I too am hoping Southwest takes over... Does anyone know when this may take affect? We have a trip planned May 2011. I am they will have more flights too.

It is anyones guess, but I am targeting some time in 2012 for SW to totally phase out Airtran...... anyone with 2011 trips will have them on Airtran.

Not me. I'm dreading Southwest taking over. Due to the Wright Ammendment Southwest doesn't fly out of my airport (DFW). As soon as they take over all the Air Tran flights will have to be moved way over to Dallas Love Field. I love flying out of DFW and hate Love Field. Also due to the Wright Ammendment Southwest can not fly nonstop to MCO, so all my flights will now have layovers, plus Southwest has always been alot higher on their flights, and you can't pick your seats. I've never minded paying for my seats, since I like to sit in the same seat every flight (13D).:rotfl: Looks like I'll be flying American Airlines from now on. I already have Air Tran flights for my Dec and May trips though. I just can't decide what to do for my trip next Sept and Dec.:confused3 I wish I knew exactly when Air Tran was going to have to stop flying out of DFW. If I go ahead and buy tickets for my Sept trip when they come out, what will happen if the Southwest paperwork is signed and Air Tran has to immediately stop flying out of DFW? What happens to my flights?

No just about everyone around Dallas is dreading the takeover. We'll get to pay more money, will no longer have nonstop flights to MCO, and will no longer be able to pick our seats. No baggage fees will be nice, but AirTran has always been significantly cheaper than Southwest, even with the bag fees.
