they finally got me, they changed my non-stop in OCT to a 2hr layover in Atlanta:lmao:
Did not call yet because they have nothing close to what we had just yet.

This will be the last straw if I can't get better flight. Booked this in March.
this is the second change but the first was only 10 mins each way.

If I cancell I lose it all because it was a credit from way back and had to be booked before May 1st

Is there a time limit that I need to make change before I'm stuck with this flight?

Not sure if there is a time limit, but the sooner you call the better the choice you will have for selecting an acceptable flight. The same thing happen to me last weekend on our return flight from MCO to PHL (a flight that had previously changed 10 mins.) in early Oct.. I called and got a nonstop flight that was two hours earlier since I did not want a layover in Atlanta and getting to Philadelphia at 5:30 PM.. The agent was understanding and very accomodating. She made the process very easy - and I had an almost immediate email confirmation of my reservation. Good luck in your decision making. :)

Is this common for Airtran to change you from a non-stop to one with a layover? I am hoping to avoid layovers because this is the first time my children have flown and I'm not sure how they are going to be :confused3 I don't mind time changes but this has me worried.

I just found out my AIRTRAN flight in Nov was changed from a non-stop to a layover in Atlanta. I did NOT get an email informing me of this change...I read about Airtran doing this to people here on the boards and decided to check the res I made a couple months ago. Sure enough my flight and time were changed. I called and got another flight, but I have a feeling there will be more changes by Nov. My husband won't go if it isn't a non-stop flight.

Once you make your reservation everyone should be checking at least weekly to see if there has been a change. The sooner you know the sooner you can call the airline to get the flights fixed. Don't depend on the airline notifying you of any changes.

Well said safetymom!!!!!!!!

Airtran flight changes are common, changing from a nonstop to having a lay over can happen. It did happen to us this year (we bought tix in Feb for an Aug flight). I try to check on my flights every week or two. More times than not, we are not infomred of changes (or infomred weeks after the fact). It was no problem to switch all 8 of us to a different nonstop.

BTW, I have had other airlines change our nonstops too in the past. At least with Airtran out of MKE I usually have several flights to choose from/change to.

Airtran changed my flight as well. Instead of leaving at 8:43pm I'm now leaving at 7:20pm. Still non-stop (this time), but I chose the latest flight for a reason. No e-mail from them yet, I was just checking because this happened before. The last time there was a layover and with 4 kids I was not having that. The agent was nice and changed our flight quickly and with no extra charges. Pain in the neck, but managable. Call now.

Depending on the other flights available, you can always call and cancel and get a full refund of you fare. If, however, you want to switch, make sure to check the fares. If the new flight is cheaper, you'd be best to cancel and then rebook the flight. If the new flight is more expensive, just have them change you to that flight and you don't have to pay the extra cost. If you are going to cancel and rebook, make sure to use the coupon that is out!

The problem is the OP used a credit from a previous cancellation, they wouldn't be entitled to a refund.

It happened to me last Oct. Non-stop changed to a layover in ATL also. I would call asap and explain that is not acceptable. (I had plans to see the shuttle launch and the layover messed up those plans) I had to get a supervisor to help me, since they wanted to charge me to move the day of my flight since they had no more non-stops, but in the end, I got it and they didn't charge me.
