AirTran Business Upgrade

Does anyone know if the upgrade to Business class when you check-in is lower than just going to their site and upgrading before check-in or when you initially purchase tickets....I am half tempted to upgrade to business when I check-in if there are still seats available, that is if they are a bit cheaper. We fly out on the 23rd of August and are looking forward to it since this is our very first trip to Disney!

I think it's cheaper at the Airport. Maybe even the day before your flight online as well--but of course it's always a gamble that there will be seats. We always upgrade at the airport and so far, so good.

We wanted to do this in March but on the day of the flight there were no more business class seats left. I think there are only 12 or 14 total on a plane.

I always fly Airtran out of BWI and I go the Saturday after Thanksgiving; there have never been any seats to upgrade to then.

However, the following Saturday, there have been and I remember it being offered for $50.00, in lieu of $60.00 if you book it ahead.

Out of MKE, the business upgrade is $69 to MCO if you book it during checkin online. I've tried to pay attention at the airport and it has always been $69 there,too. I usually upgrade when checking in online, or use Airtran A+ rewards and call at midnight to upgrade to business using 4 credits.

I don't know the answer to your question. Just wanted to say that we are flying out on Aug 23rd on Airtran too!! I'd love to upgrade but there are 5 of us, so that's too much $$. Have a great trip!

Where are you flying from and where to? We are flying out of Minneapolis and then have a connecting flight in Atlanta to Orlando. Maybe will run into each other and not even know it!

AirTran ROC to MCO has been $50 to upgrade (may have gone up by now, we've not use AirTran in over a year) whether you do it when you check in or when they make annoucements at the gate that they have some seats still available. If they are available, we always upgrade when we check in. But to answer your questions, the price to upgrade has always been the same online or at the airport for us.

Whenever you have a connection the cost is usually prohibitive. This is because you will pay a fee for the first leg and then another fee for the second leg.

We are flying direct from Rochester, NY. It's killing me becausse my husband prefers we take direct flights and the only one of the day is at 5:08pm. So - we don't get to Oralndo until Monday night about 7:45pm. When are you flying back? We're flying back on the 30th but we could only get a connecting flight so we're going through Atlanta on the way back. Have a great time at Disney! Only 32 days away.

I really need to upgrade, 6'6" here. I always upgrade when I do online checkin, either exactly 24 hours ahead, or at midnight if using points. When I upgrade, most, if not all, the 12 seats are available. By flight time they are always all gone. Price is the same online or at gate, but a good chance of none available at gate.

I haven't paid to upgrade to business class, but have used an upgrade voucher several times. I call at 11 p.m. central time (midnight in Atlanta or Orlando...wherever they answer the phone) 2 nights before flying to Orlando, and I am usually the first to call!

ive used vouchers to upgrade too, fresh out after last month's tripthough...believe $ cost would've been $49 pp from PIT to florida, although the flyer talk list says $69?

i had a credit from last trip due to luggage incident and refund of the seat assignments i had paid for before the business class upgrade so i booked a quickie trip for next week

wondering if you can apply the $ already spent on seat assignments to business class upgrades if they are still available when you call or if you get a credit & have to pay for full amount?

anybody know?

Ok my experience has been they credit me later (back on the card that I made the original purchase). A couple of weeks ago however they gave me the credit back into my Airtran account. That works for me because we do only fly Airtran and I will be able to use it. As far as it instantly being applied, no I have never experienced that.

When I call to do the upgrade, I get the credit back in my account immediately if I've paid for the seat assignments and I'm upgrading using Airtran A+ rewards.

I upgraded on Wed and yesterday for trip to Atl from RDU and back. On Wed I checked in downstairs and paid the money to check a bag. When I got to the gate they were announcing upgrades were available. So I went to the podium and I only had to pay $23 to upgrade due to I had already paid $6 when I booked the flight for a seat and I had just paid $15 for the checked bag. I asked if there was an upgrade available for the next day, there was, so I only paid $43 because of the $6 prepaid.

We flew MKE/DC last month. We had pre purchased exit row. When we upgraded to business, the $20 exit row charge was immediately applied to the upgrade, making the net cost $29 rather than $49.
