We are thinking of a trip to Vero Beach. What would be the best airport to fly into ? Also - about how long would it take to get to Vero from there? Thanks!

Orlando airport(MCO) will give you the largest selection of flights and times. It is 96 miles from MCO to VB. It usually takes us about an hour and 20 minutes.

You can also fly into West Palm Beach and Melbourne airports.

Hi, tomi. In my opinion, the easiest and cheapest airport is probably MCO. Many major cities have non-stops to MCO, and usually at a decent price.
PBI is also relatively near by, and the cost is probably somewhat reasonable, but I would think there are fewer direct flights (just a guess).
I don't know how much commercial traffic Daytona has, but I would bet that gets pricey.
Of course, there is an airport in Vero and Ft. Pierce, but they do not have airline service.

All in all, I would go with MCO.

Well, if you want to be close on both ends, you could fly Portland to Melbourne (PWM to MLB) via Atlanta, but as you know, flying out of the "jetport" ( still makes me chuckle) gets a bit pricy, tho it's wicked convenient. It seems Melbourne on the other end is similar, a fairly small but easy to use airport. The other posters are right about Orlando (MCO) having the most non-stops and good connections, plus it's really easy to get into and out of, so we're using MCO from now on when we go to Vero. When we went down in January, we flew into West Palm (PBI), which is about 10 mins closer to VB than MCO. We didn't much care for the airport at PBI, tho the staff at the car rental (Alamo) were really great (best I've had). But getting into and out of the airport at PBI is kinda like using Logan: it's confusing and you are supposed to know where you're going already (and there are plenty of confused seniors sharing the road with you there too).

So in summary, if it's convenience you want, use PWM and MLB, but it'lll cost you more (but then again you can take a taxi to VB on the other end; about twice the distance of Gorham to the "jetport" (:rotfl: there we go again). For cheap fast flights, I would recommend Manchester or Boston to MCO (MHT is a bit pricier, but cheaper parking and easier to get around).

Enjoy VB. We thought it was breathtaking from the moment we entered our Ocean View inn room.

I have been watching Delta lately for both MCO and MLB and the rates for the cheapest available were 246/pp to MCO and 279/pp to MLB up until last fri when they all went up 10/pp rt. The only thing I worried about and have yet to research, but based on past experiences, I suspect the rental car situation may not be so good with options and prices which would make MCO the best choice for sure. We have driven from WDW to VB and it was not so bad, it is worth the trip unless you have a real early flight out on departure day, that thought does not excite me so we will look for after noon flights. BTW-we can get flights to either MCO and MLB with just one connection in either CVG or BOS which is really good for being at the end of the earth. Good luck!
