Hey everyone

We just returned from our trip.
I have a "Has this every happened to you?" question.

The day of departure, we received a notice from the desk that they were unable to check us in to the airport because we didn't have assigned seats on the plane.
We would have to check in at the airport. Ok.

Then , we we brought our luggage to the resort terminal, they told us they could not take care of our luggage because we were randomly selected by TSA for a security check. This means when we got off DME, we had to collect our luggage and go through the counter line to sort everything out.

They assured us that this security check was no big deal. just a random selection. We do not travel by plane often so this stuff is new to us.

The line at the terminal was long and frustrating and the attendant did not understand why Disney could not do this for us. He said the check in stuff should not have been an issue. (I did not have an assigned seat on the way to Disney and I was still able to do it online).

As for the security check, nothing. At least nothing that we noticed. If something happened we were not aware of it. We didn't even take off our shoes or take the liquids out of our carryon.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Did Disney get their signals crossed somewhere? Honestly, the ease of travel is one of the best things about Disney Vacations.
Thanks,
Diane

We fly Southwest all the time and they do not have assigned seats and we have checked our luggage at the resort on day of departure. Typically, you receive a DME notice the day before your departure as well that tells you your departure time from the resort.

There are times that people will be unable to do RAC checkin because they, for one reason or another, have to actually check in, at the airline counter, in person. I have no idea why this happens...but it does. I'm not sure why not having an assigned seat would prevent them from checking you in though...that's really odd.

I checked in myself on my phone. I did get stopped last month at LAX to get my bag searched because of some bubble bar/playdough stuff I bought my daughters at Lush. I guess it looked like explosives on the Xray. Oops!

We have had this happened to our groups several times. The last was in 2013. We had 7 people in 3 rooms. We had seat asigned to us. One of the rooms had to take their luggage. It is not Disney it is the airlines that control this. We just know that it can happen so we dont worry about it.

Happened to us once. No big deal, just took a little longer at the airport. The line at the check out counter was pretty short.
