Looking for the good, the bad and the ugly on this stuff. What can you tell me about it? Did it help you feel better? Was it too nasty and you just couldn't take it?

Haven't tried Airborne but swear by Zicam! Same concept. Seems to work great if you start using it as soon as you feel a cold coming on.

It tastes really nasty! I have a hard time taking it all to make it work.

Thanks! I'll have to check it out to see if it is something I can take. Because of all my strange allergies I can't take just anything.

I won't take it because I've heard of a few people who got really sick from taking it (and know one person who did). It is mega doses of certain vitamins and some herbs. High doses of certain vitamins can be toxic and, with my delicate system, I'm not taking chances.

Like annej, I'm a Zicam user. I only use the nasal gel. If you use it, do not "snort" it up your nose. There are reports of people losing their sense of smell. If you use it as directed and just coat the inside of the lower nose, you won't blow out your olfactory bulb! :teeth:

I've taken it. It doesnt taste too bad. My 4 year old loves it (give him about 1/3-1/2 tab at a time). Its got an orange/ citrus flavor to it and its fizzy. I have no idea if it really helps or not- theres no way to know how long you would have been sick with out taking it!

Thanks! That is what I was afraid of.

Thanks Christine! That is one thing I was afraid of because my body is so screwed up. Looks like I may be trying Zicam instead. Is it just like any other nasal spray?

Nowadays, Zicam comes in many forms. I stick with original form which is a nasal "gel" (not so much a spray). It comes in a bottle and you squirt it into your nose, but it is thick (and cold). Then you pinch your nostrils for about 5 seconds and wipe of the excess.

You can also get the gel on "preloaded" swabs (which is actually really nice) but a bit more pricey.

Zicam comes in all kinds of formulas now for allergy, coughs, etc. If you are trying to stave off a head cold you just want to get the nasal gel.

Thanks again! Looks like I'm going back to Wal-Mart after work today.

I took Airborne when I flew to WDW in March and stayed on it the whole time. (I seem to get sick every WDW trip when I get home) I didn't get sick but if that was luck or the Airborne I couldn't tell you.

I guess I am cheap. I use the Wal-Mart or Target brand of Zinc tablets for the girls or I and it works every time for a fraction of the cost.
If I am traveling or starting to get that first "tickle" of a cold I take a couple a few hours apart and they work great.
Might want to consider that as well.

Sorry, can't help you with Airborne. Our nurse SonIL introduced us to Zicam maybe 3 yrs ago. I swear by this stuff and keep it in all my med. cabinets and also my purse in the winter. :teeth:

There was a time I seemed very susceptible to colds, which usually ended in a month battle of bronchitis :guilty: . Thankfully, I haven't had a cold/bron. in several yrs :goodvibes!! I am constantly around little ones and exposed to all kinds of little germies, so soon as they get a cold or I feel like I may be starting one, I know to take action. I use the spray gel type, only I squirt it on a Qtip. BJ's sells twin bottles for $14. If I really start to feel run down, I kick it up a notch with my good old stand by - Echinacea and Vit C. Echinacea should not be used for extended periods - not over 10-14 days as it can interfere with your immunities. I've been doing these two for many years, in spite of what the latest medical reports may say :rotfl: , and I have truly had great benefits!! Works for me!! :goodvibes

We love airborne. We've haven't been sick in ages for more than a day or two. No antibiotics in a house of nine for the past 3 years. Not evidence, of course, but we'll continue with it even if it is a placebo! Can't stand the taste of any of the zinc stuff. I can't make myself take it.

Thanks all!

Noodleknitter that is pretty amazing about no antibiotics! WOW!

It is a very happy statistic! You know, I surely have "cursed" us now for this year! ;)

Nope, you haven't - we won't let that happen. :wizard:

I vote both! The combo is wonderful stuff. It totally saved me a couple of months ago. I beat a cold in less than 3 days! Maggie
