air tran ?

I have flown them numerous times. Usually the service is just fine (& the price great) but occasionally (like all airlines) they can have a bad day. This is usually related to bad weather (Florida has lots of afternoon thunderstorms that can really mess up a schedule) ofr delays in other cities.
They have mostly very new, comfortable jets (but bring your own snack) & are getting new 737's next year according to the newspaper.
As with any air transportation, try to build in a cushion of time to allow for delays of any sort. Many people fly in the day before for just that reason (if you can). If you search the boards, you shuld find more coments (mostly favorable) on this subject as well as good & BAD for Delta/Song etc (unannounced schedule changes etc).
Good luck

We have flown Air tran many times and still do to the West coast when we go to Disneyland. The price can't be beat and service has been good. We fly non-stop out of Kansas City on Southwest to Orlando at a very comparable price to Air tran. Air tran just does not fly non-stop out of KC or we would fly it more often. Great for families!

We've flown with them a number of times and never had a problem.

We flew AirTran on Memorial Day Friday on the way to our Magic Cruise. We had planned to drive, but due to some last minute unexpected circumstances, we were forced to fly - making our reservations only 48 hours before the flight.

In any case, AirTran flies the Boeing 717 and most of their fleet is very new. It is a great plane, new, quiet, roomier than your average 727 or 737. Overall, considering the times we were traveling, and the whole security thing, the airline did a good job.

DH just flew AirTran last week to Ft. Lauderdale. Great price, great flight, no complaints. Unlike our experience with USAir the week before to Port Can.

Does Air Tran give preassigned seats, hopefully they don't do the cattle call like Southwest.

Yes, AirTran has assigned seats (& sometimes inexpensive upgrades to "business class").

I fly them whenever I can. I live in Port Huron and MUCH prefer the drive to Flint over Detroit. Now that there is a direct flight daily each way between Flint and Orlando I will be avoiding DTW as much as possible.

Even with the layover in Atlanta though, it is not that bad. I have relatives there and if I have a long enough layover they come over and we visit in between flights.

I don't recall having any issues with them and I have been using them since they started flying out of Flint.

Welcome aboard

Can you say Whoo! I saw this thread and held my breath! I work for AirTran and I admit after reading all of the bashing about other airlines it was nice to hear these positive things.

No for my opinion they are GREAT!!! LOL. Hope all goes well with your choice and cruise.

Flew them for the 1st time in January and loved them. Their frequent flier program is the best. Unfortunately when I went home last week, I got a cheaper flight on Northwest. But I will definitely be flying them again. Very impressed.

I flew with them once...the trip down was not great...the A/C was not working right in the plane and it was hot as heck but the flight home was good.

Just book Air Tran today from Flint MI to Orlando for our 10/30 Wonder cruise. $179 total. We have flown AT several times (twice with large groups of 50+) and they have always been great!. Sometimes with them, however, you have to "play" with the dates a little to get the best price. By staying a day after the cruise...we were able to take the price from almost $300 per down to $179.
