As expected yesterday was terribly hot, so that made the afternoon tea especially welcoming.
DH and I went as part of my birthday celebration.
As we were there there was only one other man. And he ducked out right after he finished eating, leaving the women he was with to linger.
But I don't think DH felt uncomfortable. And as we were leaving another couple that appeared to be DH/DW were being seated.
DH usually drinks coffee, and could have there too. But we shared a pressed pot of Organic Green Tea - with citrus and gingko. Very good. There was quite a variety of teas to choose from. And he could have selected one of his own.
We both ordered the Buckingham Palace: traditional tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts complimented by fresh strawberries and cream, and the tea.
The server was very nice and attentive the entire time. And service was fast, as they don't really have much to prepare. This was set up so they can bring items and clear them away rather efficient.
Each sandwich was maybe 3 - 4" square, and cut from the center of a sandwich. Thin bread, with a thin flavorful layer of filling in between.
Each sandwich was different and the server said what each was as she set down the plates. I passed on the watercrest and cuke, but the others were VERY good. DH likes cukes and he even commented how good the sandwich was I neglected.
On the side was a Small, sweet onion tart. Sounds odd. But it was very sweet. I am not an onion person and ate mine. It was a little too oniony for me. But after all, it was an onion tart!
We were served I think 4 courses. The last being our choice, and we each ordered strawberries and cream. We each were served a large bowl of strawberries smothered in real whip cream. I think DH was in heaven.
He even finished off what I left behind of my berries and cream.
Overall the afternoon tea was a very good experience, and we certainly would return for a repeat visit. It was very refreshing, and more filling than you would expect.
I told DH too bad we did not have a room at the GF. It would have been perfect to had the tea and go to a room for a nap, away from the brutal sun and heat we had to face once again!
And I used the DDE discount card too.
