After Prom Parties

I have to say, I got flamed here for that one. One would think that I couldn't clean my own house. I can clean my house faster than anyone I know. It wasn't about having a clean house. It was about making a lasting impression that anyone underage who drinks in my house will remember. It also served to humiliate DS#4, who so richly deserved to be brought down a few pegs. When I tell you it was the talk of the school, that is NOT an exageration. Teachers commented on it; rather positively I might add.

I think you did a great thing!

Are you kidding??!!! The parents KNEW and ALLOWED their teenage guests to bring alcohol to their home and they not only looked the oher way but they encouraged the drinking by taking the keys with a wink and nod. I chased down the guests because I certainly didn't want kids who snuck booze into my home when we weren't there to leave after they had been drinking. By having them clean up, it was a way to observe their sobriety and for me to call their parents. It was a "consequence" not a quid pro quo. Since that episode and the drama of me chasing teens back into the house, we have not had underage drinkers at our home since. Lesson learned!!! The parents should pay the fine because they knowingly allowed an alcohol party and looked the other way deliberately.

You should be applauded for this.:thumbsup2 With 2 sons of similar ages(18 and 22,now) I would want the same for them . I think too many parents turn a blind eye to underage drinking .....stating that "they would do it anyway". In our small town 4 girls showed up drunk to a Middle School dance this past spring and one of them collapsed shortly after arriving at the school dance ! Where were their parents ...who was responsible for allowing them to drink at that age ? Very upsetting :sad2:

after my prom, my group of friends and i "camped" in my friends backyard. we had dropped our cars off during the day and the parents took keys and checked all cars, duffle bags, coolers, grocery bags. but none of us brought alcohol anyway. but i was very glad to know that his parents did that! the guy was embarrassed but none of our parents would have done any differently!

Dawn...perfect!!! it made me laugh, but also made me think, "wow, there are still parents out there that will do that"!! :thumbsup2 (and this is coming from a 22 yr. old...who by the way still calls her parents when she's had more than 1 drink)

A bunch of my friends and I (about 14 of us total) rented a condo for the weekend and stayed up there. By far my favorite memory from high school!

I went down the shore for the day

There won't be a link but DH and I were out one evening and I called home. DS#4 was home. I heard some voices in the background and suspected that there was a party. We told him that we would be very late and surprised him 20 minutes later entertaining a housefull of teens. They attempted to flee the house, like rats from a sinking ship ;) and I herded them back in, made sure they were sober and called all of their parents to let them know that there was drinking going on at my house, unbeknownst to us. We made them ALL clean up, dump out the beer, etc. I chased one car down the street in my gown in the rain. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. ;) It was the talk of the high school the next day but we haven't had drinking guests at our home since. The kids were prepared to be thrown out, not thrown back in and have their parents called.

You are my HERO!!! :cheer2:

My son is 12 now and I know that I will be having evenings like the one you described. We all do it. I tell my DH that all we can do is educate them and hope they make the right decisions.

After my PROM, a bunch of us went to the beach and then to Dennys. It was fun, nothing major. A lot of the kids went to after parties at hotels and such. It just wasnt something I wanted to do.

Dawn I think you are a responsible and dedicated parent. Good job.

Believe me, I was blasted on this board for calling the parents of some 18 year olds because they "are adults". "Adults my eye".

Wow. What were those people who blasted you on here drinking?

DD and her boyfriend and 2 other couples spent the night at our house. They all crashed on the living room floor and we made them breakfast the next morning. Now I will go put my flame suit on 'cuz I am sure that some people with have problems with this.

This is what we did when I was in high school after prom. The next day we usually spend on a boat on the river.

Around here it is most common for the schools to throw an all night party after prom. They bring in a Dj, have the big inflatables, games, contests, etc. Once the kids are there they are not allowed to leave. We did this on graduation night and it was a BLAST!

No problem here. ;)

This was the thing to do in my school too. A couple of groups would rent Winnebagos (sp?) and go to Seaside. That was usually the next day though.

After prom I got drunk and had sex. Isn't that what everyone did? :rotfl:

One of my friend's parents had a "midnight breakfast" party until about 4 or 5 am. They made us pancakes, eggs, waffles, bacon - the works. No one had any booze or tried to bring any in, either. Guess we were squares. Ironically, a couple of years later, most of the people at the party became the biggest burn-outs and dropped out of college to live communially and get high all of the time. Luckily for me, I missed all of that nonsense.
