Aeroplan to Disney

For folks who've booked flights recently, you may want to go back and take a look at current rates for flights. I just cancelled and rebooked our exact same return flight for 6,000 fewer Aeroplan points!! :)

Yes, I did the same for March Break. Thanks.

Is the earn rate $1 : 1 mile charged to the card? Funny that I didn’t even bother to check that out lol

If you have a Visa Platinum card (TD or CIBC):
  • Gas, grocery and Air Canada purchases (including Air Canada Vacations): 1 points per dollar
  • Other purchases: ~0.67 point per dollar

If you have a Visa Infinite card (TD or CIBC):
  • Gas, grocery and Air Canada purchases (including Air Canada Vacations): 1.5 points per dollar
  • Other purchases: 1 point per dollar

If you have a Visa Infinite Privilege card (TD or CIBC):
  • Air Canada purchases (including Air Canada Vacations): 2 points per dollar
  • Gas, groceries, travel and dining purchases: 1.5 points per dollar
  • Other purchases: 1.25 point per dollar

If you have the basic Aeroplan card (Amex):
  • Air Canada purchases (including Air Canada Vacations): 2 points per dollar
  • Dining purchases: 1.5 points per dollar
  • Other purchases: 1 point per dollar
If you have a Reserve card (Amex):
  • Air Canada purchases (including Air Canada Vacations): 3 points per dollar
  • Dining purchases: 2 points per dollar
  • Other purchases: 1.25 point per dollar

I activated my card today. I can't remember...would I have already linked my aeroplan number when applying for the card?
Yes it asks you if you are a current Aeroplam member when you apply. If you aren’t sure, you can log into your Aeroplan account and see if the red box on the upper right says “Credit Card Holder”

So we are new to all this, just getting our cards now and already met the threshold for spending. How soon do they load the points, and the buddy pass. Also as we spend and accumulate points,(which my wife wont have a problem with ) how soon are they added.
Looking at flights for next march and hope to use these points and buddy passes. Thanks

Reports suggest for bonus for the first purchase and the $1000 spend, as well as the regular points from spending, after the subsequent statement posts.

For the Buddy Pass, it's different depending on the issuer. CIBC is posting really quickly - within 1-2 statements. TD is much longer - 8-10 weeks after the qualifying period of 90 days.

Eeep... agree completely! The data points are just coming in now... Wish I'd known as i might have gone with CIBC. Might still open a CIBC card...

Data point: met the $1,000 spend on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card and 20,000 points posted with the first statement.

Strategy point I just learned:

You can only receive ONE buddy pass to Aeroplan points from the Visa Infinite tier of credit cards. So either CIBC or TD Aeroplan Visa Infinites, but not both.

So if anyone is just getting started now the most strategic order is to get the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite with Buddy Pass and convert it, and then the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite new offer of 45,000 Aeroplan points. This would maximize the Aeroplan points haul (95,000) and minimize the wait times.

Couldn't have foreseen the new offers when at the end of the last promo... but still sighhh...

So thought I would post the best strategy for now!

Great to hear. Just need to wait for our 1st statement,,for sure made then spend. Renewed 2 plates for 2 years. Lol

Did the buddy pass load?....might still get the cibc as it has buddy pass to. We want flights to hawaii. More points the better

For a specific tier of card, you can only get one buddy pass every 12 months. So, for example, if you've received a buddy pass from the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite, then you won't be eligible for a buddy pass from the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite for 12 months. But, you would still be eligible for one buddy pass from the premium tier cards (TD or CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege), and one from a business card.

Thank you for that...good to know..buy could still get the 20000 welcome miles for each card?.
Still learning this, used to do AM, but that has taken a dive lately. So looking at this and already do pcpoints. So plan on getting AC gift cards with pc. Also will get costco gc to use on car rental.
Heres hoping it falls into place.
