My DH used to be a high level aeroplan traveller pre-Covid & we always got free checked bags for the family with him.
It's usually better value (cents per point) to pay taxes and fees and other add-ons with cash instead of Aeroplan points. Here is an article that goes through why.I just peaked at flights for theoretical traveland I was surprised that Aeroplan now has three options for points redemption - similar to the three levels of booking with cash. I already have a TD Aeroplan card so I get checked bags for free. Has anyone looked to see which redemption is the best use for points … I do like seat selection, but is it better to pay that separate.
Newly confused … like booking park days. Too many options.

I think the Buddy Pass may have more value if going to Hawaii or possibly Mexico. But for North America, I feel the 30,000 points trumps the Buddy Pass. In my case (and my wife's also), we opted for the 30K points which have yet to be loaded into our accounts. Only been about a week since I converted the pass.
How did you convert the buddy pass to aeroplan points / who did you contact to do that ?
Thanks !
It was quite easy. Call Aeroplan, ask them to convert your buddy pass into Aeroplan points. My wife's points showed up already. Hers was CIBC. Mine (TD) haven't yet but my buddy pass has been removed from my Aeroplan account so I'm sure they points are in queue.
I think (not sure) what @amw is referring to is the class of booking options, Standard, Flex and Latitude. Each one offers different benefits at a cost (points). But if @amw is referring to the different cost of point options after you have chosen your preferred class, then yes, as @EICray says, it is almost always best to take the defaulted point option not the higher or lower cost point options.
I converted mine (Amex) in May, and the points showed up in my account exactly 2 weeks later. For us the points offered better flexibility.I think the Buddy Pass may have more value if going to Hawaii or possibly Mexico. But for North America, I feel the 30,000 points trumps the Buddy Pass. I always purchase the advanced seat selection with cash separately. When they refunded my points for the July 2020 trip, I had to call AC to get the refund on the advanced seat selection. It is the former. If we get free cancellation with bookings prior to June 30, and I already get free baggage through my aeroplan visa and status ... is there any value in booking flex over standard? The loss is the seat selection, but for the point difference can I still pay cash for this service after the Booking?
Im used to the redemption when it was one choice, and seat selection came with it.
Not sure what you mean by "max level", but yes, it can be used for a RT to Hawaii from Toronto. What is the max level for the buddy pass. Looking at flying to hawaii from TO. And is it return? Thanks,,all nee to aeroplan..signed up last week with the td promo
Max meaning above econo class,,like business or the likes. At westjet you can get an equal seat to the one purchased. Not sure what you mean by "max level", but yes, it can be used for a RT to Hawaii from Toronto.
Ah, ok. No, the buddy pass can only be used for economy fares, but if you buy an upgradeable economy fare, you'd be able to use any eUpgrade credits you have to upgrade both tickets (i.e., the paid one and the buddy pass).Max meaning above econo class,,like business or the likes. Is the earn rate $1 : 1 mile charged to the card? Funny that I didn’t even bother to check that out lol
