We're thinking of doing Williamsburg for our vacation this year - probably in Sept or Oct. Haven't been there in several years, and definitely don't want to stay where we did last time.

Can anyone recommend a "non-chain", reasonably-priced motel/hotel that's clean and fairly close to the historic area? We got burnt once on a place that looked great on the internet and in brochures, but boy was it a different story when we got there! We like going to the "mom and pop" type places and giving them the business instead of a big corporation. They are always so much more personal.

Thanks for any help!

Can't help with a "mom & pop" type hotel, but DH and I stayed at the Country Inn & Suites a couple years ago and didn't have any complaints. It's not a big hotel, has a warm, friendly feel to it (I loved the lobby with the fireplace and seating). They offer a free continental breakfast. It wasn't far from Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, while being away from (most of) the traffic of Rt. 60. We also got a great internet special rate on their web site. I would stay there again. Good luck!:D

:D :D Thanks Dopey Sharon! I'll check into it. It sounds like a really nice place. I hope they still have great rates on their website.
