Advice On Cash Nights

Wondering if anyone has an idea on availability of a cash reservation for a weekend night in the summer(mid-July)? I want ot use the DVC discount off the rack rate while combining points for the rest of the stay. Would want it for a two bedroom at OKW in 2006. How far out can you book a cash reservation anyway? Thanks to all you wonderful people whom have "The Answers".

Cash reservations made thru MS usually aren't allowed 11 months ahead. DVC's first responsibility is to reserve villas using points. Once MS is comfortable that , due to past history and current reservation activity, a date won't be needed for a point reservation they will release it for member cash reservations. At times cash reservations are available thru MS from the CRO inventory and the discounted rate may still not be available.

I have always reserved any desired cash nights thru MS at rack rate and then have ben very pleasantly surprised when a later confirmation was sent indicating the 25% member discount had been applied. We have gotten the discount far more times than not - but it not always available. Weekends will have the best chance for success.

When does this automatic discount take place (how far out from your reservation). This has never been my experience. I've always called and requested the discount be applied to my rack rate MS reservation. I've never been told it had been automatically applied or it is not necessary for me to call back it will be applied automatically once available in the system. In fact, MS has always told me to keep checking. DVC does not have much in writing about cash reservations so knowing the process is difficult.

When I've gotten the discount, it has usually been within the last 3 months before arrival and in those cases I already had a cash night reserved thru MS- normally at about 6 months. In those cases, I just received a "modified" confirmation letter noting the change to the reduced rate- all without asking a second time.

There have also been a few times when the cash res, with the 25% discount was readily available at about the 6 month mark. There have been a few times when I did call back several times, but the discount never became available.

I have not seen any "official" statement from DVC about how this works - other than the fact that there is a 25% discount "when available".

Where do you find out the rates for cash nights at VB . I can see rates for all the other DVC resorts but not this one. can you book cash nights at the same time when you are booking using your points.

Not sure where to find the cash rates for VB if they're not showing but....you CAN book the cash nights at the same time you book your pts nights IF they have it available. That's really the key....they may or may not have the cash nights available until you get closer to your check in date (if at all) and they may or may not have it available with the member discount if they do have it available for cash. But if it is indeed available when you are booking your pts nights, yes...you can book your cash nights at the same time

FWIW, we paid $243 per night for a a 1 bdrm at VB with the member discount in addition to our pts stay this past May to give you an idea for that size villa and time of year.
