Advice needed by DVC newbie on recent ressie!!!

Hello all,

Had a quick question about a reservation I just made for 2 SSR villas for Thanksgiving week '08... My family and I will be traveling with my sister and her family on this trip, so I booked 1 villa for each of us.

After thinking about it the past few days, my wife and I were trying to come up with an appropriate amount to ask my sister for... The best solution we came up with would be to have them pay $$ for the villas for the last nights stay(Friday Nov.28th). This would enable us to save the 09' UY points that we borrowed for this trip. I know that we would still have to use these borrowed points before our UY expires the following September, but that won't be a problem

Long story short , I am a DVC newbie (will only be our second trip as members) and I know I should have thought of this before I borrowed my OCT 09' UY points...

My main question is, how do cash reservations work? If there is availabilty for these accomodations on the 28th, would we be able to stay in the villas we used for the 6 days prior? I understand that there is a cash discount for DVC members, but I could really use some clarification of the process involved.

I have never made a cash reservation before but, on the points side, you should be able to get your 2008 points back instead of your 2009 points back. By getting 2008 points back, you can bank them into your 2009 use year giving you longer to use the points.

Thanks for the reply... The 09' points I am referring to were borrowed into my 08' UY for this trip. As I understand it, our OCT UY starts on 10/1/08. Our trip begins on 11/22/08 and will be considered as our 08'UY. So, to make this particular reservation, I banked our remaining 07'UY points into 08' and borrowed the remaining points needed from 09'.

We have stayed a couple of times on points plus cash...and they were always more than happy to let us stay in the same unit (saved them having to clean unit, etc)...actually for us the cash night was the first night of the stay and then the point nights followed. We checked in as a cash reservation for 1 night, the first time we did that they had us come back to the desk the next AM and issued new keys, etc but let us stay in the same room. The last time we did the same thing they told us we did not even need to come back to check out/check in again. Remember you can make the cash reservation with the member discount which will save a little $.
