I generate AI music quite often - I get enjoyment out of it, like the tracks and so do other people. However, sometimes an AI track hits far too close to home for comfort - the tracks sound all too much like a genuine composition by a human being. Like one track was extremely similar to "Toss the Feathers" by The Corrs. If we are to use AI to come up with tracks from nothing, we have to be vigilant. AI doesn't know every copyrighted track in the world, so in its quest to find chords and melodies that sound good together, inevitably problems will occur.

I binned those offending pieces.

I think the problem is that it does know the copyrighted music because that is what has been used to “train” it. AI has to rely on the information it has been fed in order to create something “new”. Several copyrighted tunes have been the subject of plagiarism lawsuits before AI, and now all those tunes are being mixed together and the result can’t help but be another near clone.

I worry about the same issue with novels. For example, there are maybe a dozen different romance novel scenarios out there (friends to lovers, second chances, etc.) and it can be difficult enough to put your own spin on the scenario you pick. I think AI will be more likely to just copy what it sees occurring the most in the training material instead of even trying to be original.
