Adventures of the "Moms" Panel

just submitted my application too. Now the crazy long wait begins. Good luck everyone!

I’m loving all of the activity on this thread today! :thumbsup2

One slightly weird thing, though: I’d drafted my essays in Word. They met the word-count requirements, and Disney’s online form even showed that I had a word or two to spare. Regardless, for two of my essays, the last word merged with the one before it to make one really funky compound one. Of course, I immediately started searching for expendable words I could delete to make enough room to finish my sentence. …Not my preference, but oh well!

The same thing happened to me. Then when I got rid of a word or two it showed I had more words left I could use :confused3 . Oh well!

Does anyone know when they announce the next round winners?

I applied this morning at about 11:15am. Just wondering about the process because I read on the other board that there would be a few questions about biographical/etc information and then 3 essay questions. I wasn't asked any biographical questions, only essay questions. Is this because I was already registered on the Disney website and all I had to do was log in??
Any ideas of the time frame for them contacting people who are moving on to the next round? Oops, one more question - I am very local to the parks and a passholder...will they choose someone like that, someone who doesn't have to travel far to enjoy a Disneycation??

Hi all! It's been awhile since I posted on this thread, but I have been lurking! I appreciate all the insight I've received from you all and want to congratulate the worlds premier Mom's Club panelists for a phenomenal beginning! I just submitted my application and I wanted to wish all the other "mom's panel hopefuls" oodles of luck and even more patience for the upcoming months! :cheer2:

Welcome back! :wave2: (Weren't you the person who pointed us to a funny Fort Wilderness-related thread a long, long time ago?)

Ya know: I wonder if Twende -- the DISer who originated this thread -- still is out there and if she's planning to apply... :confused3

Those are all good questions...

-Yeah, based on how the press release read, I sort of anticipated some additional (biographical?) questions, too. I'm now wondering, though, if -- as you suggested -- that's just for folks who haven't already registered on the Walt Disney World Resort web site. (Users have to create a profile when they register, which involves entering contact info, etc.) :confused3

-To my knowledge, no info has been released about the time-line for contacting semi-finalists. (If last year's contest is any indication, it could take about a month... Of course, Disney also only accepted half the number of applications for the 2007 Panel.)

-One of the Moms on this year's Panel (Beatrice) is a Florida resident. (She also speaks Spanish, which I'm sure helps.)

I'm pretty sure when I logged on this morning to apply it said those moving to the next round would be contacted by November 1st (which is a Saturday). Did anyone else see that or was I seeing things?

What a good memory you have! Yes, that was me. The campers are a hoot! Even Bret came over there one time for information!

You know, I haven't "seen" Twende in quite some time. Perhaps she'll come out to play again soon! I have to say that this time last year, as everyone waited and celebrated an commiserated with each other...was a memorable experience that I'm looking forward to sharing again!

By the way...I just had to chuckle at one of your previous posts about submitting your application and getting the munchies! Right after mine was officially submitted I headed for the kitchen to get a steamy hot bowl of baked mac-n-cheese~the ultimate in comfort food! It only would have been better had the pasta been Mickey shaped!:rotfl:

Wow! That's a longer wait than the last time! :scared1: (Of course, Disney may be dealing with twice the number of applicants this time, too... :scratchin )

I very well may have missed it! ::yes:: (I only remember scanning the usual language about a Disney rep. contacting the semi-finalists, followed by a disclaimer that it's impossible to contact everyone who entered...)

Does anyone else remember anything about November 1? :confused3

I saw the Nov. 1st date too but that, to me, seems like the final round. How can they get all the other rounds finished before the holiday and Dec. travel dates?

Regarding the word count differences, it might be related to the letter count. I suspect that if you have lots of long words, then you might not be able to use 100 words. Just an educated guess based on my experience last year with the application process, and working with the MP site this year (which uses a letter count limit, not a word count limit).

If you can, I'd ignore Word, and use the web site for guidance. Overall I suspect a few words +/- won't matter.

I just wanted to wish all of you applying for the 2009 Moms Panel lots of pixie dust and magical wishes. :wizard:

Dreams do come true!!

I saw the date of November 1, too. I believe it was for notification of the final panelists, though. I imagine we'll hear about the second round a little sooner......I hope!

Hey Current Mom's Panel ~ have you guys heard if you'll get any input on the new panel that's being chosen? either in selection or to help train and pass the baton ?

You might not be able to say, and thats cool too, but I was just thinking how awesome it would be for both sets of "moms" to get to meet each other and pass along some knowledge and excitement! After all, you are all leaving some pretty big (goofy-sized) shoes to fill!

Thanks Kim! I feel like I just took the SAT's!
A sprinkle of Pixie Dust to all who enter!!!:tinker: :tinker:

Thanks!

I'm going to be walking, crawling or running the EE 5K. :rotfl:

Sorry, it's taken me so long to respond. I've been busy helping a friend's family. She was in a car accident and has been in critical condition for the last 32 days. Finally, today, her kids (8, 5 and 10 months) get to go see her.

I'm going to try to get caught up on my blog soon too. I know I left off on sharing tidbits on our June WDW trip.

And Kim, you so eloquently put into words a sentiment and story that I agree with 100% -that it is never too early to bring your kids to Disney. And if you miss the chance when they are young, you never get it back!

Thanks! I do have some longer words so this makes perfect sense!

No we don't have any input in the selection process. Perhaps that's good, so we can all stay friends. :goodvibes

Even though it is too late now, I just thought I would say that when I realized I couldn't squeeze in the extra word or two that I was trying to get in, I just went back to some of the other words I typed and changed what could into contractions...like I had "you will" and changed it to You'll so I could get in another word...LOL

Have you been watching us answer MP questions? :thumbsup2 This is a great tip for future panelists. We've learned all kinds of "tricks" to get in more info in the limited space that we are allotted for our answers.
