Anyone else waiting for 2015? Thinking about doing the Backstage Magic tour...

From memory last year, was it around May time this will go on sale?

Yes, last year the new schedule for 2014 was released on May 22nd for Insiders, and May 23rd for the general public. But it has varied over the years, so we never know for sure. :goodvibes

I'm waiting, and hoping for Israel. :) Otherwise, I will just keep waiting and waiting.

I am waiting as well. We are doing Backstage Magic in October. Hoping for Australia in 2015, unless my friends get their act together and we go to Europe instead.

Just a couple more months to go now!

Agreed.
I'm looking at Australia, Peru or Norway... Quite the spread. :)
It's looking likely that we'll one of the rumored Norwegian Fjord DCL cruises next summer. If so, we'll probaby do Australia.

We are also thinking of October. We've been to MNSSHP in WDW every year for the last 10 years or so. I figured if we are going to do the Backstage Magic ABD then we should go check out DLR's MNSSHP.

We have a similar plan but to do Universal's Halloween Horror Nights!

So to pass the time...

Does anyone who's done an ABD tour before have any top tips or need to knows for us newbies?

My favorite suggestion (originally from DisneyKevin) is to take "Thank You" cards with you to put the Guides' tips in. Much nicer than the envelopes ABD provides.

Also, if you have any dietary restrictions, call ABD (or your Travel Agent) way ahead of time, so they can note it on your reservation, and let your Guides know ahead of time what you'll be needing. The ABD Guides are amazing at accommodating dietary restrictions!

I haven't done BSM yet, so I can't give you specific hints for that tour, and my tips for European trips won't really help (they use US dollars in California! ;) ) But I'm sure you'll get tons of hints from other folks.

I've only been on one and it was Scotland, not a domestic ABD. However, I plan to do the same for domestic ABD trips like the New York Dreams DVC ABD we are doing this May. Arrive at least one day (or more) early since you never know what could happen with a flight delay or last minute cancellation and you don't want to miss the first part of your ABD. This also gives you some time to relax and explore the new destination and perhaps do some things that aren't on the ABD itinerary if you arrive without delays and such. It also helps with jet lag issues when you are traveling across time zones. You can stay up on your arrival date until the normal bedtime of the new time zone, go to sleep and wake up the next day more adjusted to the new time zone.

Check the itinerary dates and see when the lunch/afternoon or dinner/evenings on your own fall. Then, scour Trips Advisor for things to do, places to eat etc. in that location. This way you might get some interesting ideas of you may not have even thought of for what to do on your own time. I also do this to plan my pre and post days.

Read any trip reports and related threads on the destination in the trip report sticky and ABD board here on the DIS. Lots of great ideas come from those who have gone before :thumbsup2

Our first ABD I was a little unnerved with pretty much living out of a suitcase, since you are never really anywhere long enough to truly unpack. Our second ABD we packed using Large ziplock bags. (They also make special packing bags, but ziplock served our purposes). Some people pack each outfit separately, but I put "like items" together. This way the clean items stayed protected and neat, while the worn clutching could be folded a packed, and you could decide if you wanted to rewear, or choose from a fresh item. All three of us felt this worked better. Will do this again for our ABD this year! :-)

We are also anxiously waiting for 2015 dates, interested in Galapagos. We have done Peru, South Africa and China. All were very well done. Folks ahead of me have posted good suggestions, we also pack in plastic bags, we use the "squeeze air out" style, and for the flights to where ever we are going, split our clothes evenly between checked bags, so if one get lost or delayed, we will both still have some clothes. We also use Thank-you cards for tips. We will arrive at our destination at least 1 day prior, both to account for any air delays, and to acclimate to time change. AbD will arrange for early hotel stays. Looking forward to seeing the 2015 release dates!

I'm waiting for Scotland. I just put my deposit down for the DCL Iceland cruise and am hoping that 1) the dates work with my cruise for the Scotland ABD and 2) I'm not priced out.

Right there with you. Just placed a deposit on the Fjord cruise. Now waiting to see what ABD will offer. I bet the extreme success of the Iceland itinerary is making DCL and ABD talk. It's a great time to be a DCL/ABD fan.

We booked a Baltic cruise for July 2015, and are eagerly awaiting the ABD add-on details. I downgraded the room from a verandah to an oceanview room (to save $5k)...I'd rather spend the money on excursions.

I'm hoping that given the popularity of the Norway/Iceland cruise, they'll offer it in 2016, and we may go then.

I LOVE Disney, but their prices are starting to get out of hand. I think I may get priced out of the vacations pretty soon. I have a hard time justifying cruise prices that are 50-100% greater than competitors. :confused3
