We are going to Disney World in December from the 17th-24th, and I was wondering is it really that important for me to make Advance Reservations for dining during that lighter seasons of crowds, or am I wrong and you should always make advance reservations in order to eat at a good time?

that is approx. the same time we went last year, and although the parks were less crowded that in the summer it was still pretty freakin busy! esp towards the end of the week, close to christmas. I would make your ADR's as soon as possible. Don't be suprised if alot of choices are full already, due to special shows like the candle light processional.
good luck!

definately make ADR. I've tried to change a few for while we are there with not much luck. We're there 12/17 -12/27

I am having trouble making ADRs for the week after Thanksgiving. I have only been able to get three out of five of my desired locations. Go ahead and make those ADRs.

I don't think the crowds will be as light as you think during that time. The Christmas crowd will start arriving on the 22nd and there are plenty of people there before that date.

You need ADR's unless you are extremely flexible with where and what time you eat.

I don't think that I would go to WDW without ADRs at any time unless I was going to be perfectly happy eating counter service. Which we do sometimes. Just take our chances and if nothing is available, eat pizza or burgers!

I called two weeks ago to change a couple times my daughter in law had made and they were full, so I went and tried to set up the rest of our reservations and it was hard to get anything close to what we wanted in eating times at most I ask about.

I would, especially if you definately have certain places in mind that you want to go to.

I just made my ADR's for Jan. 25 this morning and I couldn't get a table for 5 at Le Cellier. I had to get two tables, and hope that they may be able to get us one table we we get there(we are meeting up with my mom and her friend that day, so if we do end up getting 2 tables, then we will deal with it)....I know that Le Cellier is very popular, so other places may not be a problem...but I would definately make them if you want to guarantee a place.

For the past 2 years at least we have found it necessary to make reservations for all of our trips and we tend to go in the most off season weeks around. Many people have APs now and the locals will head to WDW for their meals. We have friends that moved to Orlando (10 minutes from WDW) a few months ago and they find it just as easy to head to WDW for dinner or a big weekend brunch instead of going to any other local restaurant.

Better safe then sorry, make the reservations.
