Adoption Updates

Hi all,

DH and I are adopting from China. We started this long long journey in January of 2005. The wait with China has greatly slowed down and what we thought would be an April or May trip has now turned into possibly January-April of 2007. Our Dossier was logged in in China on January 17th so we are down almost 6 months in our wait. Rumors are flying that the wait could increase from 12 months (Where it is now) to 18. We hope not!!!! Just ready to bring our daughter home from China!

The links didn't work for me! I did do a search and found some of the stuff though. Very cool!

Hmmm... not sure why the links aren't working... they were yesterday. Let me try again - http://www.cafepress.com/buy/adoption/baby / kids / family/-/rpp_60 and

If that doesn't work, then just type in adoption in the cafe press search and it will bring them up.

My heart is breaking for my friend right now. She lost her 8 month old baby girl Sunday. They believe that she suffocated on her blanket during a nap. How on earth do you get through something like this?

OMG... that's horrible :guilty: . Thoughts and prayers for everyone.

DH and I have our first homestudy visit tonight with our social worker. We are adopting a child from South Korea. I posted about our decision earlier in the week but now that I see this thread I wanted to pop on in and say "HI". I am nervous as can be about our visit tonight.

So glad to see you here :goodvibes . Good luck tonight... please keep us posted

Welcome JadenLayne... I'm sure she will be a real Beauty ;) :) . We too considered switching to China from Kaz but the wait is a killer for us (I won't be 30 til October so we were looking at another 2 years :sad2: )

LOL! Thanks for the welcome Kim!!!! Yep the wait has been hard and gets harder daily. I tell DH I want to highjack a plane and go get our daughter!!!! I'll be 35 in January......old to me but still really young in the adoption world!

This is my first official post-although I have lurked for a while. Dh and I are in the process of adopting a 19 month old boy from Thailand. We just received an update and a video-I have watched it several times a day for over a week. We are going for fingerprints next week, passports should arrive on the 17th, and then we should be able to put our dossier together and forward it all to Thailand-then the waiting game begins for an approval and travel invite.

How long is the wait typically from Thailand? Do you get to go there? It's one of the places on my list of must sees. Welcome officially to our group to you and JadenLayne!

We do travel to Thailand to pick up our son. That is the 1 thing I am worried about-20 hours on a plane with a child that doesn't know us. The wait for Thailand is like most countries-much shorter if you choose to adopt a waiting child rather than wait for a newborn referral. The waiting child time right now is running about 7-12 months after dossier submission. For a newborn referral it could take 18 months-3years.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the newbies!! DH and I are still saving towards our adoption. We hope to start the paperchase this Fall! We're also pretty young, as far as adoptive parents go. We'll be in our mid-30's by the time we actually travel to China to bring our sweet Dorissa home! :)

Hang in there! Do you know who your daughter is yet? It is so frustrating when timelines stretch out to ridiculous lengths and we have no control over it and in the meantime, these kids just languish in orphanages! :furious: When I started my adoption for my DDs, the projected wait was 12 months but in the end it took 21 months to complete. :sad2:

The good news is that once your child is home, you start to forget all about the waiting part (sort of like forgetting about labor pains).

Our first hoemstudy visit last night went very well. Our social worker was so nice and helpful. I was terribly nervous at first but she quicklu made us feel at ease.

WOW!!! We are going to be parents. It really is amazing.

I just saw this thread for the first time! We have our last homestudy visit tonight!!! I am so excited to get the homestudy over with and get onto the waiting list (hopefully very soon)! Yeah!

Oh, and we are planning to adopt from Korea.

Sandra

SandrainNC,

Your son is adorable! I have worked for 7+ years in a camp for kids with special needs and he is one of the cutest kids I have ever seen! Too bad you didnt live closer!

I'm so glad to hear that :Pinkbounc . Your post made me cry... I'm an emotional wreck these days

We have some, hopefully, exciting news financially. We decided to sell my DH's truck. He would use my car and we would buy a cheap car to get me back and forth to work (only a couple of miles). My parents have a 1996 Blazer that they decided to sell. They are giving us the car for nothing so we can keep all of the profits from DH's truck. Based on what what his truck is selling for, we should be able to pay for half of the adoption with that money :cloud9:

And 4.5 years later, we're still paying on our home equity loan.

Doesn't matter how you fund your adoption. It matters more that you're bringing a precious child into your lives!

Hi all! Hello to all the newcomers.

As you can see in the signature- we're going back to Kaz. I couldn't leave Kim in Kaz all alone.

Update: Our homestudy is in the final draft, and hopefully will go to BCIS by the end of next week, beginning of next. Our dossier is almost all complete, all we need to get is our FBI clearances and doctor report.

I'm not getting emails- I have to remember to check in more often.

Julie
