Adjoining Room Drama

Is there a way I could call the YC front desk and talk to them? Seriously, this would affect our trip in a huge way, and moving to a different resort isn't possible. If we can't have connecting rooms, I'd rather vacation elsewhere. Is there a number I can call?
Even when you are there in your room and you press the button on the phone for the front desk, you don't really get the front desk. You get a call center. You can call housekeeping and bell services on property though.

Exactly. I don't know of a hotel that WILL 100% guarantee connecting rooms. It's the nature of the business with people coming and going at different times.

The Four Seasons in Orlando does, but that is the only one I know of that will guarantee 100%.

I really dislike that some Disney Phone CM's are making promises that the actual resorts may or may not be able to keep.

I could not agree more. I can't tell you how many people, just here on the DIS, reply to threads like this stating that they were told because of xyz they are guaranteed to get connecting rooms. I always hate to sound like a buzz kill but I just want people to be prepared because it is very possible that their "guaranteed" connecting rooms might not happen.

I really wish I would have known that before our first trip with our "guaranteed" connecting rooms. I wouldn't have wasted 6 hours of our first day fighting about our "guaranteed" connecting rooms. When we didn't get them the 2nd time I asked if/when we'd be able to move closer together, they told me and I was on my way. Wasted maybe 5 minutes.

It doesn't really matter even if you could call the front desk. They do not garantee connecting rooms. It may work out it may not. If it is make or break for your trip you need to book something that is a booking category, a suite or a 2 bedroom.

As mentioned on this thread, you are free to request connecting rooms. The probability of getting them in unknown. However, if you don't get them, Disney really isn't obligated to due much for you. It is simply a request, not a guarantee. They try to make everyone's vacation magical but they shouldn't have tp make adjustments for something that should be understood as up in the air. You can make anything work if need be.

So I got very similar info when I asked to put connecting rooms as our room request, I was told since both of our rooms have only adults in them it's likely we will be one of the last to be considered for this request. I was told families with children and those with dissabilites that require connecting rooms will be considered first and then others who asked for connecting rooms would be considered last. We really prefer the connecting rooms, like many others, because when we travel together of course we want our rooms to be as close as possible so we request it and just hope for the best if our request isn't met then we politely ask if it's possible that we can switch if the connecting rooms become available.

A couple of times our request hasn't been met and we couldn't change to connecting rooms later in a trip, once was two years ago at the BC. We had three rooms booked and we're hoping two would connect and one would be nearby. Originally we were placed in totally different areas of the hotel, that was really not ideal for our group so the next evening they moved us to rooms on the same hallway but several rooms between (one room was a corner room, the next was about 6 rooms down the hallway and the third room was across the hall). Even though that wasn't an ideal setup for us it still worked out fine and being on the same hallway was much better than in total different areas in the hotel. Another time we were on different floors at CR but it was a short trip so we didn't try to change we just dealt with it, and honestly it was fine then too.

So my suggestion is to ask when you arrive, if you aren't given connecting rooms and want to see if you can change rooms later in the trip ask about that, if not try to work around it and I'm sure you'll find it isn't the worst thing in the world.

What time will you arrive at the resort and what time of year are you traveling? The best measures you can take towards getting your request are arriving early if possible, complete online check-in, and call in to have the connecting room request noted on both reservations. Also make sure both reservations are linked. Doing these things will give you the best shot, but still not guaranteed. I do agree that the odds are in your favor, and Disney will make an effort.

Shooting for sometime during the free dining promotion. We try to get the earliest flights we can so we arrive early! I will do all that you suggested and thank you for the tips!

I don't know what to do and my kids are too old/big to stay in the family suites.

Us being all together in the two rooms is a HUGE part of the experience for us where we talk and be silly and plan the day!
We just did a split stay at the GF and AOA. We stayed in a cars family suite with a 16 year old, 17 year old, 24 year old, 25 year old and me - the grumpy old man. The kids loved every minute of the trip. The two younger ones had the sofa bed (both girls), the two older had the queen size bed (they live in a house they own together so who am I to judge?) and I had the table fullsize bed. Having 2 full baths was amazing!!

I think it sucks, but the phone CMs are TRAINED when to tell the guest rooms are connecting and when they're not. It sucks, but they've gotta do what they're told.

For a reservation like this they won't out all three adults on one reservation with two rooms. They will book two reservations and connect them in the system with the request. Two rooms on one reservation are for 1-2 adults and any number of kids. 3+ adults gets two reservations.

It just is what it is. They offer accommodations to guarantee staying together.

They really need to stop telling people that. Twice we were verbally told connecting rooms were guaranteed because we had more kids than adults. Both times our email confirmation said connecting guaranteed. Our Mickey Mail for both said connecting guaranteed. Fist stay was at POR and we were in 2 different buildings not close to each other. The other stay was at BC and we were on different floors on opposite sides.
Wow.

I totally understand that requests are only requests and not guaranteed. But if my paperwork said it was guaranteed, I'd be pretty angry if it wasn't. 'Guarantee' and 'request' are different words with different meanings. It's not right to use them interchangeably.

If you're guaranteed something, it is part of the deal you agreed to. It's not like the guest can shirk on their end of the deal... "Oh, yeah. I know we guaranteed we'd pay $300 a night. But circumstances have changed, and we can only provide you with $200 a night. Sorry for the inconvenience!"

And I really don't like the 'it is what it is, take it or leave it' attitude. By the time you are checking in at the front desk, 'leaving it' would require you find different lodging with zero notice. That's not okay.

(Again, I'm talking about failure to live up to a guarantee. I'm not talking about a request.)

- If it says "Guaranteed" on your paperwork, pretty sure it's because a CM has typed that in the request line.

- They should not tell you that nor type that because ...

- This is in direct contradiction to Disney's Terms and Conditions.

- Disney did not "agreed to" with you.

- "It is what it is" because it is Disney Policy, not our attitude.

- And yes they have those terms in writing.

- "Availability at check-in" means it can not be arranged in advance or guaranteed.

That's why I think going to a CM and making "demands" is such a dead end. Legally, there's no promise to be fulfilled. Your demands are very hollow.

Anything the CM types DOES NOT show up for the guest - notes on the reservation, typed in requests, etc. There is a menu on there for preapproved requests that Disney has loaded in and one of them is "guaranteed connecting rooms." They use this (as they're trained to) in the adult/child combo with 2 rooms on one reservation that I mentioned above.

I can't really blame the phone CMs when they're trained and get dinged if they don't do this properly.

Then the CM's don't know the meaning of the word 'guarantee' and/or their company's policies. That's still Disney's fault in my opinion.

When a company does not take ownership of their employees mistakes, they are doing a disservice to their clients and the employees are misrepresenting the policies.

I understand what you're saying and it's not like I'd threaten to sue or something. But I would be pretty frustrated and I don't think that is unreasonable.

And whether the 'take it or leave it' attitude belongs to a company or just an individual doesn't change the fact that I don't like it if the word 'guarantee' is involved.
