Adding On...Where??

We are wanting to add on. We currently own at BCV, with only enough points to go every other year - which from the West coast, was what we thought was reasonable... Yeah right LOL. Now we need more. We want to be able to go every year for a longer trip. Sooo we definitely want to add on - but where? Adding on at BCV would allow us to book the entire longer stay at the 11 month window without having to switch resorts. We loved the BWV when we stayed there, and also want to try other resorts like AKV and Vero. Also, adding at AKV would give us the extra years (not for us - we would be into our 80's, but to pass onto the kids). So those of you that own at multiple locations, how do you handle it? Especially if the daily point costs are different at the different resorts, so switching at the 7 month point gets more complicated. Help!!

I would always add on at my home resort UNLESS I wanted the 11 month advantage at another home resort. That is why we have three contracts. Our initial OKW of 230...An add on at OKW of 150...and a new add on at AKV of 69 for an every third year ressie there. Our initial two contracts were both at the same resort because we felt it was important to have that home resort advantage for ALL our points. Now that it's been 10 years, we know that our 380 points at OKW are serving us well, so now an add on at a different resort gives us more 11 month booking window flexibility.

I buy where I want to stay and generally try to make my reservations at the 11-month time frame. As AKV grows, you may find that you can get it at the 7-month time frame, if you don't want a concierge or value room.

I bought AKV as much for my granddaughter, born this year, as for me. I would like to pass at least some of it (I plan on purchasing more points) on to her so she can go until she is 50 if she wants to. I hope that she will. :)

We own 225pts at BCV. While the points we have cover our needs, I would like to purchase two small add-ons at AKV and VWL in order to secure the 11 month booking window.

I share that philosophy. Add on at the other resorts where you want to stay and ensure you can take advantage of the 11-month booking window.

I own at VWL and BCV. I use the BCV points when I book 11 months ahead. The VWL points usually go for last minute trips and whatever is available. My kids (young adults) only want to stay at the BCV. Some day (not soon I hope) I'll have grandkids and the VWL points will come in handy then.

Well my first thought was to add more at BCV so we would have enough to secure the 11 month booking for a longer trip. Yet I would also like the 11 month booking for either BWV or AKV. If I added at one of these, I suppose with banking and borrowing we would have enough to still get the 11 month booking for a longer trip - but every other year? So, alternating resorts every other trip - having the 11 month window available each time. Does anyone do this - and how does it work out?

Most of my points are with SSR (450) and I use them through out the year, but purchased BWV (130) points last year so that I could stay there during F&W and use the 11 mo. window to book a standard room. I now just got an email asking me to add on more to my BWV points....thinking seriously about it. But I'm waiting for the CRV too.

Hi,

I have 150 BCV points and am thinking of adding a small amount of points at another DVC property.

If I add 50 additional points at BWV (same UY) how does it work when I decide to book 1 weeks at BWV with my combined points 11 months out?

Do I book my 50 BWV points forthe first and last day of my reservation, firts two days, or the two weekend days? Then try and fill with my BCV points at 7 months?

Do I book two days 11 months out at BWV and five days 11 months out at BCV first, then try and change the BCV dates to BWV dates at 7 months out?

Will Disney automatically make the change for me if my dates are not available and I wait list some days?

Thanks,
Steve

I would borrow the BWV points to book everything but the weekend days at BWV, and try to get the weekend days with BCV points at 7 months out. For me, the whole point of the add on is to make the whole reservation at 11 months out.
We are on a waitlist for BCV, and at first I was going to waitlist for 80 points, figuring that with banking and borrowing, we could book a 2 bedroom there for 5 nights (200 points for when we would go) every 3 years. Now, I'm going for 100 points, so I have some BCV points for our use and not just for the "whole family" use.
When I need more than a 2 bedroom for our visit, I do book the other rooms at whatever resort I have available points at, and then at 7 months I do change that whole ressie if I can. I've always been able to change studios, have never tried to change a 2 bedroom ressie.
