Adding on already?

We're scheduled to settle on our 200 pts. for SSR on or about July 1st.

Since the news of the price increase, we're thinking of doing an add on of 50 pts. though Disney. If we do so before closing, can we still get the $5.00 per point break as with the orginial 200 pts.?

I don't know.. we did the same thing, figured the original purchase wasn't enough so "added on" before the original contract was completed. What happened was our initial purchase points just changed, and we still got the MB credit. I would call my guide, 50 points is the minimum if you finance. Have you considered doing another purchase (contract) for the add on?

I think it would have been nicer to have seperate contracts, so one can adjust their ownership as one's needs change. (I read it is easier to sell smaller contracts) But, in our case, I suspect the kids won't let us "adjust" our membership points any direction except up!:)

Will DISNEY let you change the original contract point amount since you have not closed yet? i.e., tell them you want 250 instead of the 150 you are under contract to close on (example)?

I would be interested in knowing too. I think I want 150 SSR and 150 BCV but I would do the SSR @ $79 (giving back my points) if I possibly could. I am waitlisted for more BCV.

It worked for us.. We just called our guide and when the contract came, it was for the new point amount..

I haven't for got about you folks. I contacted our Guide last night. I'm still waiting for a response. Will let you know what he says.

My Guide (Marc Turner) contacted me today, and this is the scoop. We can only get the point price break (say that outloud 3 times) if we do an additional 100 pts instead of 50. We would be doing an add on sub-contract.

However, he said that since we're still within the 15 days cancellation period, we can cancel the original contract for 200pts. and re-write another for 250 pts and get the full price break all while still keeping our February use year. The only cost would be another tree sacrficed for us.

We've decided to do this and since we were not planning to go home until January 2005, we are surrendering our 04 pts for the full $10 point price break ($79).

We had anticipated adding these 50 pts before SSR sells out, but now at $95 a pt., only Walt knows what they will be going for then.:teeth:

If you are going to have the contract rewritten anyway, you might want to think about having it split into a 150 point contract and a 100 point contract. The total number of points and cost will remain the same, but if you find yourself with too many points down the road, you can sell one of the two contracts. JMHO YMMV

so (for example) if you change your orig contract for 200 pts to 300 pts it would be an add on at $79 a point (giving back your 2004 points)? or $84 a point (not giving back your 2004 points)?

i am just outside of my 15 days so I don't get the redo of the contract I suppose. If it is $84, then I would probably just keep trying to get the rest in BCV add ons I guess.

thanks for the info, but could you clarify the add on amounts. thanks!

Our guide stated that if we were to add at least 100 pts. to our orginal 200 pt. contract, we could get the $5 point break ($84). No price breaks under 100 pts. when doing an add on. This would be considered an add on.

So we've cancelled the orginal contract and starting over. Under the new contract we've opted to give back all 2004 pts. for the $5 price break and will get the automatic $5 price break offered by DVC for a total $10 per point price break ($79).

Right now $79 per point looks a lot better than $95. I just think if we had chose to join later, this 250 pt. contract would have cost us $4000 more (that's assuming no price breaks or "specials."

I'm not sure what can be done outside the 15 day cancellation period. Since we're new at this too, and read this forum several times a day, as others have suggested, you might want to call your guide and discuss your particular situation.
