I'm not a DVC member ------ YET!!! I'm working real hard to convince my hubby!!!! *LOL*

Quick background--- I had orginally want to buy 150 points at Boardwalk. Hubby does not want to put that much ca$h into something until he knows it is something our family will use. We have 2 young children and will probably be only able to go to Disney once every 2 or 3 years (imagine driving from TEXAS!). I was thinking that we could start off buying 50 points. We could borrow and get 100 total, with that we could stay for almost a week.

Here is my question.... If we buy 50 points (or even 60) at Boardwalk and decide we like DVC we can add more points, right??? Now can't these points be from another resort??? What if we buy 100 points at Old Key West, will Boardwalk still be our home resort??? Will we still be able to book Boardwalk 11 months out?? What about OKW, can we book it 11 months out too since we have points there?? Can you see I'm confussed??

Thanks!

OK I am going to do my best but hopefully one of the experts will be along soon.

1. Remember that the small 50 point INITIAL purchases must be on resale. They are hard to find and actually my experience has been they cost a littel more per point since LOTS of people are chasing them.
2. When you add on the points go with the resort. For example I have 150 OKW points, 50 HH points and 100 BCV points. I can book only what I afford with the points at the resort 11 months in advance. So 11 months in advance I can only "spend" 150 OKW points at OKW. Then at 7 months I can spend the 50 HH points and the 100 BCV points at OKW.

Hope that helps.

When you buy smaller contracts(re-sale only) you will have to pay $350-$500 closing costs which will make your cost go up.

Yes you can buy a small contract(50-75 pts) if you can find them, and borrow ahead to get double the points(100-150) in a stay.
But remember you can only use the 11 month window at the resort you have the points.
Example......if you have 100 pts at BW and 50 pts at OKW......you can only use 100pts at BW at the 11 month window, then wait until the 7 month window to use your other 50 pts (from OKW) at the BW.

Whichever resort you have your pts at will be your home resort. If you have 50 pts at BW and 100 pts at OKW, you can book at 11 months out at both resorts, using only the pts from each resort at the 11 month window.

I think I understand better now!

So, I guess if I want to always stay at the Boardwalk I'd better plan on buying all my add ons from there too so I can use the 11 month window to book.

I appreciate yalls info I feel like I understand the add ons and booking windows better!

Thanks!
Shari

150 points is probably about right for every other year anyway. The extra costs and hassles of your original plan are not worthwhile for most people and I'd recommend against it. The costs are too high and the chances of getting exactly what you want is not very good.

You could have an awesome vacation if you bank one years points and use it the next year. 300 points can go a long way!
