Adam Levine: "I hate this country"

This is news? I put this in the "who cares" category. I've said some doozies myself but of course no one pays any attention to that.

I agree. They always frame it as "America" saved or sent home a contestant (by voting). He was expressing frustration with the voting. But it was a stupid thing to say into an open mic.

Exactly. It wasn't I hate the country of the United States of America. It was in the context of the voters on the show who are referred to as "America voted".

I'm thankful every day that I am not in the spotlight because I have been known to utter some comments which would apparently offend many people.

Ain't that the truth!

I find it crazy that there is a big deal being made of his statement. Anyone should be able to figure out (quite easily) what he meant/what he was saying.

Gah! It's almost worth repeating again, it is being handled so wrong.

It wasn't a political statement at all. It was in response to viewer voting on a competition TV show. People need to get a grip if this offends them.

I have a question if anyone cares to answer it. I had to just go and watch the clip since I missed it. He said it after one of his people were saved. Is it that he wanted one of his "others" to be safe? Maybe I'm just missing something but it has me curious.

I thought he said it after Holly Tucker was told she was staying and his two girls went home.

I just went back and watched again as I'm not familiar with all their names. He said it after Amber was saved. They said she was from team Adam.

The other day on Facebook I posted "I hate Michigan" in response to having to turn the heat back on for Memorial Day weekend. DH said "I hate kids" with a big old eye roll in the direction of the group of teens that giggled and texted their way through the new Star Trek movie last weekend. Heck, I'm pretty sure I've even muttered "I hate this country" a time to two too, probably in response to our ridiculous tabloid culture and the fact that crap like this gets more public reaction than issues that legitimately effect our lives.

It is all just hyperbole. No big deal. But it sure makes a great distraction...

I honestly think it was shorthand for "I hate the way this country voted"

I frequently say "I hate people" - "I hate customers" - I hate kids" - I hate <insert many things>"....When in reality I don't really hate any of those.

These are different times though, everyone is just LOOKING for something to be offended about.

I don't think its a big deal and think that the people making it out to be a big deal and boycotting the show are just way overreacting.

I think all of us are guilty of saying something like that when frustrated. You have to take it in context. "America" voted out two of his people. So, he was frustrated. He said something he probably shouldn't have, especially with a mic on. I don't this it demeans him as a person and I haven't lost respect for him. If anything it shows that he cared about his contestants and the outcome.

Some people just get way to worked about stuff like this.

Boycott the show because of a statement someone made? Man, I hate this country. :lmao:

I've said and thought a lot of stupid things. "I hate this country" has not been one of them. And for that, I am thankful.

I don't really think he hates this country. The Boston bombers hated this country and it was obvious. Glad nobody's ever miked me. :confused3

I've said it before...after an election or two. It's just something said, not REALLY meant, usually out of frustration.

Not even a blip on my radar. I'd be more disappointed in him if he had to apologize for it. People can't say "Boo!" anymore.

I don't like Adam Levine one bit, but I think he said it out of frustration and anyone who is offended needs to get a grip.

This is really interesting to me. When I saw this thread, the first thing I thought of was the Dixie Chicks and how INSANE people went over a certain statement the lead singer made. To me, it's kind of the same thing. I would bet there are people on this thread giving Adam a free pass but who HATED what she said and boycotted them. To me, the reaction over her statement was crazy. She had the right to say what she did, but she was still slammed.
