Adam Levine: "I hate this country"

I don't think he meant to make a political statement or anything. Like others said, it was an "I hate people" type of remark.

I wasn't a fan of maroon 5 or this show before, so I can't boycott anyway lol

I agree. They always frame it as "America" saved or sent home a contestant (by voting). He was expressing frustration with the voting. But it was a stupid thing to say into an open mic.

It's ridiculous that so much is being made of this. He said it jokingly, and out of frustration after 2 of his 3 remaining Contestants were sent home. Adam doesn't hate the Country. People need to put their Torches down.

Agreed, it’s being taken entirely out of context. I still love Adam!

I hate this country because we publish stupid news stories.

He muttered under his breath, "I hate this country," when he realized that 2 of his 3 remaining singers were going to be voted off the show.

And arguments can be made that the 2 singers that were voted off were 2 of the best talents on the show. They weren't my favorites, but they were both very talented, especially Judith. (My favorite is the one left on his team - Amber.)

I can understand his frustration. I think he was expecting to win w/ either one of them (Judith or Sarah), & I think the other judges were just as surprised as he was w/ whom went home.

I feel the same way often - like when all those voters were voting to keep Kate Gosselin on "DWTS" or Sunjay (or however you spell his name) on "American Idol."

Or, more seriously, I feel that way often on election day - or when we have more people voting for American Idol than we have voting in an election.

I don't really hate our country. I love America.

But, sometimes, like Adam Levine, I really wonder what people are thinking.

He was just joking in frustration.

And, as an aside, both Judith & Sarah (the other one voted off) had poor song choices, & Sarah's song was one Adam had chosen for her. So he should have been expecting it a little bit, especially for Sarah.

No big deal -- so many other reasons to get worked up out there that should be a non-story.

Of course the people making a huge deal out of this probably didn't even see the show. He was obviously just frustrated. However, if the consensus is that he needs to be disciplined....I'll volunteer

Yep, they always call the voters "America"..

I've not been a fan of his since he had a temper tantrum over Maroon 5 music being played on Fox News. His recent comment is not a surprise to me by any means.

Yay ADAM!! :dance3::cheer2::cheer2:

In the context in which it was said, I think its not a big deal at all. Its silly to make a big deal of it, IMO. I'm extremely patriotic, but there is really no story here.

Adam Levine apparently made a slip of the tongue with a hot mic on The Voice.

Opinions?

I think his tweets are a bit juvenile and ridiculous. On them he's saying it was a joke (basically) and then he comes out with a statement that it was said in a moment of frustration.

I don't think, of course, that it should have been said on tv, but even that doesn't bother me. I couldn't care less if someone says they hate this country or not.

I think everyone has said "I hate _____" in a moment of frustration and did not truly mean what they said. However, I think that people are likely to forget that and call him unpatriotic. Sometimes people forget that others are just as fallible as they are but continue to hold others to higher standards.

Also, I think an artist has every right to control whether or not his music/work is used by someone or something that does not represent their personal views. Some artists don't care and will take a paycheck from anyone, but some do and that is okay. It's perfectly reasonable to think that people will misconstrue the use of a song/picture/etc as an endorsement and to thus take measures to prevent situations like that from occurring. Part of what an artist trades on IS their reputation and trying to protect/preserve their image is perfectly reasonable and acceptable.

Thoughts? I've also said "I hate people" or "I hate this country" sometimes. Does it mean I actually hate people or hate this country? Absoutely not. It was said in the heat of the moment and out of frustration.

It doesn't change my feelings towards him at all. I was indifferent anyway. People sometimes say things they don't mean when they are upset or frustrated.

i agree. I say those two things a lot. I think I just mean that I'm frustrated with stupid idiotic people or things that are happening in the country. I feel bad for the guy, he's just being human. We are pro Adam in this house. ;)

I'm thankful every day that I am not in the spotlight because I have been known to utter some comments which would apparently offend many people.
