My daughter is scheduled to check in for the CP on 8/20. I am not sure what her activities will be for the first couple of days. I am flying with her on 8/19 but I'm not sure how many days I will be needed to help out with her apartment or how much time she will be able to spend with me. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what the first days are like after she checks in? I need to know how much time to take off from work. Thanks!

I know there's a housing meeting, Traditions, work location specific orientation, and then training, but I believe your daughter should get her specific first week schedule on the first day when she goes to casting to get her work location.

I check in on the 20th too, and my mom is going to be with me! She's planning on staying until the 23, just in case there's something I need from Walmart or Target in the first few days, and so we can see each other a couple of other times after check in. I don't expect to necessarily spend a LOT of time with her, just because I want to have time to spend with my new roommates so we can get to know each other and I know I'll be busy with Traditions and training, but it will be nice to know my mom will be there the first few days if I get anxious or upset about anything! It's my first time to really be away from home so I'm nervous and it helps me to know she'll be there for most of the first week.

My son Michael is checking in August 20th. He is trying to match up with a roommate. The Facebook group he tried to join became inactive. Do you know of an active group that he can log into?

We are only going to check him in and stay for a day.

It's great to hear so many other people will be checking in on the same day! Hopefully we won't all fade too soon from the heat! I don't know of any other types of Facebook groups, etc, but I will check with my daughter and her friend (who is also checking in that day) to see if they know of any. TikiStitch, thanks for the information....I was thinking of staying until the 8/23 as well...just in case Kelley needs me. I think I may be more worried than she is about her being away from home; she is just so excited!

My son checks in n the 20th as well. We are driving his car down and then flying home on the 23rd. Just want to stick around a few days and make sure he is settled. He has not had luck with roommate matching either, but does not really seemed bothered by it. Did anyone else's kids not get their first choice for classes. Brendan logged in Monday afternoon to sign up and his first 2choices were full. He doesn't seem to care though. I think I was more disappointed than he was that he did not get in to Disney Heritage LOL!

Roommate matching only pairs two people together. It doesn't fill the apartments or anything. They also limit the number of pairs that they have for each date. Not everyone who opts in will be paired up. I think this is just to give them more flexibility in assigning apts on check in day.

On check in day everyone meets the majority of their roommates anyway. Those that are paired up prior to arrival only know one other person.

Pretty sure they have a wait list for courses. Lot of people rush to sign up and then later drop out for whatever reason. If he's able to get credit, he needs to talk to the disney education group and make sure that they are aware of this so he can get priority.

Michael was alot wait listed for "Marketing and You" class. I think that because the check in dates are later in the month that the classes filled up but there a lot of drops as people get their work schedules.

So does anyone know if there is going to be a Saturday/Sunday night get together for all the CP's? In several blogs there was a meet up usually @ Rainforest Cafe.

My daughter checks in on the 20th as well. She has roommates lined up but has been told that they have to be first in line to be placed in the same apartment. When are your kids going to arrive for check in? Do they need to wear dress clothes to stand in the Florida humidity for several hours? Questions....so many questions.

My parents stayed a couple of days after I checked in. Check in day will be hectic. She'll be getting her apartment, going to Casting to get her work location, and have a mandatory housing meeting to attend. I didn't see my parents much that first day, but I was thankful they were there because they were able to get some of my stuff moved in while I did everything else I had to do. The second day was an off day for me, so I was able to run errands with them and spend a little more time with them. They left on the third day, which was fine because that was my Traditions day. So if you stay a couple of days to help your daughter, I think she would really appreciate it. It definitely helped me ease the transition of going from seeing my parents all the time to living in a different state. And they were a huge help in getting me moved in. :)

Just a note: she won't get her company ID card until her Traditions class, so she won't be able to get into the parks until then. And she won't get her maingate until a few weeks after she starts the program, so she won't be able to get anyone else in the parks until then.

My son was supposed to start on the 20th as well but got called in earlier. I dropped him off on July 10th.

He had a window to be at the orientation of like 9am-11am. I got him there around 9:30 and he didn't finish until around 2. There will be people milling around outside of the area so that you can ask questions. He is staying at Vista Way and that's where his orientation was at. I'm not sure if all orientations are handled in Vista Way or just their residents.

I dropped him off and went to a DVC sales meeting to see about specifics for it. After that I stopped by Wal-Mart and bought almost $250 worth of stuff to get him started... food, cleaning supplies, extras on toiletries, etc. We unloaded the car in the rain and had to make way to get the rental car back on time. I couldn't stand the thought of him not having lunch already so I took him over to Chick-Fil-A and got him a meal. At this point a roommate had shown up so they both got to go. They both looked really young and homesick at this point. (He's 22)

I had to fly out the next day to see my daughter receive an award so I don't know about day 2 and such. I know he handled the rest of it just fine. I had bought him a fan for his room but it was broken. The next day or so he was able to take it back to Wal-Mart without my help and with no car.

Day 3 he went to DHS with some of his roommates.

I think overall if you make sure she has food and supplies to get started and access to some money then she'll be ok.

He started with $250. I know he went in 1/3's with two other roommates for a tv. Two days ago, July 19th, my husband called and asked if we needed to put more money in his account and he said that he still had $80 left but that if we were just being generous then he was game.

I told my son that first impressions are the best and that he needed to dress up. He went in a shirt/tie/dress slacks. His roommate was in a t-shirt and jeans. I saw a variation between the two. I'll ask him tomorrow what the consensus is on that...

Check in is casual. I mean, I wouldn't wear anything too crazy, as they have to take pictures for the IDs that day. But anything that is Disney appropriate, and is comfortable. Her online page will tell her more. I think the only requirements are to have sleeves, or just something to cover your shoulders for the picture. I saw plenty of girls in shorts and tank tops.

As for the roommate thing, have they matched together online? if not, they should do that, unless one is over 21 and the other is not. Otherwise they may not get roomed together.

I opted in to the roommate matching system but I haven't found anyone to room with thru here or the Facebook pages, will the system match me with someone or will it just be the luck of the draw when I check in on August 8??

If you opt in, you should be matched up by the system before you get there, but since the date is so close I'm not too sure. But if you get matched you'll get name, email address, etc. of the person you're matched with.
