My son was supposed to start on the 20th as well but got called in earlier. I dropped him off on July 10th.
He had a window to be at the orientation of like 9am-11am. I got him there around 9:30 and he didn't finish until around 2. There will be people milling around outside of the area so that you can ask questions. He is staying at Vista Way and that's where his orientation was at. I'm not sure if all orientations are handled in Vista Way or just their residents.
I dropped him off and went to a DVC sales meeting to see about specifics for it. After that I stopped by Wal-Mart and bought almost $250 worth of stuff to get him started... food, cleaning supplies, extras on toiletries, etc. We unloaded the car in the rain and had to make way to get the rental car back on time. I couldn't stand the thought of him not having lunch already so I took him over to Chick-Fil-A and got him a meal. At this point a roommate had shown up so they both got to go. They both looked really young and homesick at this point. (He's 22)
I had to fly out the next day to see my daughter receive an award so I don't know about day 2 and such. I know he handled the rest of it just fine. I had bought him a fan for his room but it was broken. The next day or so he was able to take it back to Wal-Mart without my help and with no car.
Day 3 he went to DHS with some of his roommates.
I think overall if you make sure she has food and supplies to get started and access to some money then she'll be ok.
He started with $250. I know he went in 1/3's with two other roommates for a tv. Two days ago, July 19th, my husband called and asked if we needed to put more money in his account and he said that he still had $80 left but that if we were just being generous then he was game.
