Absolutely unacceptable

I love the title of this thread - absolutely unacceptable. I can't tell you how many times I've read that phrase. Just about as many times as I've noticed the person who makes the statement continues to accept it, and then complains to the rest of us who have absolutely no part in the problem.

Look, I understand it's frustrating, but you're over-reacting in the extreme. If you truly find it unacceptable, then don't go. Call up Disney, tell them you don't accept it and cancel your plans. Take whatever loss that comes with it. Reschedule for another time.

THAT is what UNACCEPTABLE means.

Of course, we all know that you're going to accept it. So please do so gracefully and don't complain to people who have no part in your inconvenience (because it's only an inconvenience - nothing more).

This has got to be one of the most condescending replies I've seen on these boards in a long time.

We are at Disney now! :cool1:

And encountered the Monorail closure yesterday at Magic Kingdom.

But it was no big deal. We took the ferry to the MK parking lot (we're staying off site). They were running at least 2 or 3 of them constantly and we waited maybe...10 minutes from the time we boarded until we left the dock.

The kids loved it because we'd never taken the ferry before.

Lot's of folks hate that argument because it quickly puts everything into perspective....

But by all means, let's continue to be hateful, spiteful and attack one another because our opinions differ....I wholeheartedly believe we can significantly increase the drama and fill up another 16 pages in no time.

No it doesn't. We're on a disney board, most of us already realize that it's not the Iran/Israel conflict. I already realize that it does nothing to solve the gas crisis.

I too dislike being reminded of "how lucky I am to be able to set foot on disney property". For me the inference is since I'm sooo lucky to be here I should accept any type of service totally ignoring the fact that I PAID money for that so called "luck". Luck has absolutely nothing to do with my ability to go to disney.

as I say many times if you don't go with the acceptable party line of "Every thing disney does is superb" you all of a sudden need a readjustment on your "perspective".

If you read the Disney fine print (which there is a ton of) you will see that nothing is guaranteed with them.
Which is true of pretty much any large business.

I am with the OP on this one. I would be VERY upset. I don't think we need to judge her response or feelings on this. She feels the way she feels. You might feel differently, but she has the right to be upset. She can call and complain. Disney doesn't need us to defend them. I don't understand why anyone would be offended by her post or get upset over it. :confused3
OP, I hope things work out for you and that you have a wonderful trip. I would die and go to heaven if I got to stay at the Pol! :cloud9: We are always stuck in moderates. But if I ever could afford a trip to there and the monorail was down, I too would be disappointed. As another person posted, they can charge more due to ease of transportation and you will not have that benefit during your stay. I hope something can be worked out for you. Have a great trip!!!

While the use of the monorail may be "overrated" to you and "a really dumb reason" to pay more for a resort, for many people it makes perfect sense. I love riding the monorail, and do not find them overrated at all.

People should be happy that we all like and appreciate different things. Otherwise there would be one style of resort at WDW, with everything exactly the same. How boring! Now can we please stop attacking and belittling each other for having different tastes and opinions?
Just because my opinion does not jibe with yours you consider it a belittling attack? That seems a little thin-skinned to me :confused3.

I would be LIVID also if it were me. We are not staying at POLY, but have 4 ADR's on the monorail that this is REALLY going to alter the route, and how long it is going to take to get there. I think its crazy to do this at "peak" season, when people have paid MORE to stay at these resorts. Can you imagine too, those who dont get the heads up, and all those llate for ADR's that get charged??

For example, now it seems that since that many feel that disney did drop the ball (again) we're going to nitpick on the title of the thread or we start pulling out the "fine" print. "Disney doesn't guarantee you the monorail, only transportation" when we all know that Disney most definitely charges extra for the use of that monorail.
No. They don't. The room rates are higher at the Seven Seas Lagoon resorts for a variety of reasons (fact, not opinion) including location/view, resort amenities, multiple dining options, room size/occupancy/decor... Disney most definitely DOESN'T charge extra for the use of the monorail. Riders don't even need park tickets, much less to be staying in a SSL resort, to ride the monorail.

'Absolutely unacceptable' does convey a specific message, one which was apparently not the OP's intent since she's still going. And the original post wasn't "simply" a request for an e-mail addreess:

We leave for our trip on Friday and it was only posted yesterday that the Magic Kingdom monorails will not be operating between 11:30am and 6pm EVERY SINGLE DAY WE ARE THERE:headache:

So let me get this straight. I'm paying 300 dollars a night to ride the bus to MK? During crazy Spring Break crowds we all know how long the boat line will be to get back to the Poly. Why would Disney schedule this during such a busy time???:confused3

Where do I email my complaint?

Note the stress/shouting regarding the time period, the questioning misinformation ;) regarding the modes of transportation available, the question on the timing. I haven't seen this addressed, by the way, but I'll go out on a limb and guess: because last week, it was determined that this is the point in the GF DVC construction that the crane has to be used to place steel beams proximate to the monorail.

Personally, I think a major factor in staying at a Monorail resort is the Monorail. If I were in your situation I would asked to be moved to the Beach or Yacht Club. That way, you are in walking distance of Epcot and the Studios but still have to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom which you would have to staying at the Poly anyway.

As a DVC Member with my home resort at Bay Lake Tower, these Monorail closures have me very upset. I think that it is MORE than reasonable on Disney's part to schedule maintenance for the monorail, but it IS unacceptable to me for it to be down for such a long period of time, not to mention the cutbacks they've already taken with the running times. We are scheduled to stay at Bay Lake Tower in September and if the Monorail isn't running from park opening to park closing while I'm there, I WILL be voicing my concerns. The whole reason we bought into Bay Lake Tower was because of the convenience of being on the monorail. We have two young children and so the fact that we wouldn't have to fold up strollers or wake sleeping children to get to and from the parks was a HUGE deal to us when we bought into BLT. If we had known ahead of time that not being able to use the monorail was a possibility, we might have chosen to buy into Saratoga Springs or Kidani Village and saved ourselves a bundle. We paid a premium for the monorail and for it not to be available at LEAST from park opening to closing is ridiculous IMO.

EDIT: I would like to clarify... I absolutely understand that it is unsafe for the monorail to be run during construction and I would not expect Disney to put their guests in any danger. What upsets me are the early closures that have been happening up until now and not running the monorail while guests are still in the park. I feel that if the monorail is not being closed for maintenance or some other unavoidable reason, it SHOULD be open from park opening to park closing including parties that guests pay extra money to attend.

I don't get the suggestions to change resorts. If you want to be close to MK you still are. All the resorts on the monorail line are being affected the same way. Moving to the Wilderness Lodge won't be more convenient. There's a shorter boat ride to MK from the Polynesian. At the Polynesian you can even walk over to the TTC and catch the ferry, or the monorail to Epcot which is not affected. And if you want to be close to the Magic Kingdom moving to Epcot resorts will definitely change that.

Guests who are there are reporting that extra boats are running and it is not taking a lot of time at midday when the construction is going on. I know there's always a spate of "I don't want to ride on a boat. I don't want to walk back and forth to the Contemporary. I want a monorail. What if this happens and that happens," when this stuff comes about but it doesn't sound like it is resulting in any significant delays.

No it doesn't. We're on a disney board, most of us already realize that it's not the Iran/Israel conflict.
Speak for yourself.

Did anyone hear the news that Disney World is trying to limit Six Flags' nuclear strike capabilities?

I, for one, am more concerned about how the Belgian takeover will affect Anheiser-Bush supplying to the parks. I heard something about retrofitting their arsenal to equip Shamu... not to mention the dolphin forces training covertly and the safari animals rallying.

* sorry wadecool.... didn't see yours before I posted!!! :)

It never ceases to amaze me how much people enjoy fanning the flames of disappointment for other people. Anyone who dares to point out that it probably won't be all that bad is accused of being a Disney apologist. The situation is what it is, and I don't see the point in reinforcing the OP's fear that it's going to ruin her trip.

OP, having a positive attitude is the most important aspect of having a great vacation. I really think you'll find that taking the boat is at least as convenient as taking to monorail. But if you really feel that you can't live with that, call Disney and see if they can move you to another resort. Honestly though, if they can't, you're still going to have a great trip. I know that it's easy to get wrapped up in the idea of a "perfect" trip and freak out when something doesn't go according to plan. But, if you keep a good attitude, you often find that things actually work out better than you planned.

I wonder if OP contacted Disney and what happened, too bad we will never know, we scared her away.:scared1:

I'm sorry but mid-March is far from 'peak' season. This time of year always see's shutdowns and rehabs....all through the various parks and resorts. Peak season is going to be over holidays, school vacations, etc. But not now. And that's why Disney is doing what they are doing now and not during the summer months. As far as being late for an ADR?? That really shouldn't be an issue. The monorail has been suffering from constant slowdowns in the past year or so. So, you always ran the possibility of being late for ADRs if using the monorail. And, with Disney shutting it down for those hours, midday, they have put in more boats, as well as some buses, to accomodate it's guests. Being late really shouldn't be an issue. The issue, I think, is more of an 'I want to be able to use the monorail...I don't like the boats nearly as much' and 'my kids really want to ride the monorail'...and there is nothing wrong with those thoughts. But, Disney has put into place alternate modes of transport...they just aren't the monorail.

The thing that we all tend to forget in the haste of posting our particular thoughts, is that this is an internet discussion board. Once you put your feelings 'out there', you are now open to disagreements. And those that disagree with you are going to be just as vehement in their opposite feelings as you are in yours. All we can ask is that people refrain from name calling or nastiness. That shouldn't be so hard. But, just because someone disagrees with another's opinion doesn't make them right or the OP wrong...it's an OPINION!!!!

But, as in real life, everyone wants to feel that they are right and that their opinion/experience/feeling is the 'right' one.

Dolphins have long been a thorn in the geopolitical landscape of theme parks. Many people consider them to be benevolent guardians of Earth and space, but I know the truth. They're like Godzilla; they only help humans so that they may one day destroy us. The tank variety are no different from their wild brethren, except they have more reason to hate us, having been forced to perform in what the ocean-dwellers call "The Guantanomo Bay of nature." We must rally the rest of the cetaceans to our cause, lest the dolphins unite them against us.

Don't let the perma-smile of the bottle nose dolphin fool you. Deep down, they want to bathe in your blood.
