Absolutely unacceptable

I love the title of this thread - absolutely unacceptable. I can't tell you how many times I've read that phrase. Just about as many times as I've noticed the person who makes the statement continues to accept it, and then complains to the rest of us who have absolutely no part in the problem.

Look, I understand it's frustrating, but you're over-reacting in the extreme. If you truly find it unacceptable, then don't go. Call up Disney, tell them you don't accept it and cancel your plans. Take whatever loss that comes with it. Reschedule for another time.

THAT is what UNACCEPTABLE means.

Of course, we all know that you're going to accept it. So please do so gracefully and don't complain to people who have no part in your inconvenience (because it's only an inconvenience - nothing more).

OP I agree 100%. Paying the kind of money that they ask at the poly and having the monorail hours slashed without advanced warning is ridiculous! That is a deal buster for alot of people. I would complain, those rates are once in a lifetime or not at all in a lifetime for alot of people,so not having the monorail up and running most of the day is terrible!

Not to do off topic here, but impact is indeed a verb. It can also be used as a noun.

impact

verb (used with object)
6. to drive or press closely or firmly into something; pack in.
7. to fill up; congest; throng: A vast crowd impacted St. Peter's Square.
8. to collide with; strike forcefully: a rocket designed to impact the planet Mars.
9. to have an impact or effect on; influence; alter: The decision may impact your whole career. The auto industry will be impacted by the new labor agreements.
I was reading a grammar book, and they say 'affected' sounds better than 'impacted' because it flows better. Honestly, who makes up these rules?!;)

Because they're doing work on several parts of the track as well as the work at the resort. They are doing scheduled work on one section and repair work to a damaged portion.

Even if they weren't, running a monorail to just one resort is most likely not people or cost-effective.

I believe what I read was that they're only working on a portion of the track between the GF and the MK. Not several parts. If so, obviously it can't be done.

When my son was an infant and we took our first family vacation in 12 years, we specifically booked the Poly and paid the extra price for the advertised convenience of using the monorail. In addition, we specifically planned on my wife and my son using it during the times currently being discussed because that is when he would take his naps, and dealing with busses and/or boats wasn't nearly as convenient for her by herself, and my daughter an I planned on staying in the parks while they slept. We also planned on going to the Magic Kingdom about 60-70% of the time we were there, because that was what the kids wanted to do at the time (Epcot is our favorite now).

I realize that you love to attempt to browbeat everyone that disagrees with your opinion, but the fact remains that there are those who are effected negatively based on what their own personal preferences/reasons/plans/expectations, etc. and the degree to which they are negatively effected is different for everyone.

So, comparing the increased methods of transportation (boats, busses) is, to me, like comparing my sportscar to a minivan. Yes, they are both means of transportation, but not at all "apples to apples", and really, no one is suggesting that 100% of the reason, and 100% of the price they are willing to pay is due to monorail access. It's always those without a logical counter that resort to hyperbole and straw men arguments.

The fact is that Disney charges more for those resorts in part due to the convenience of using the monorail to and from MK. This is in part why WL and FW aren't as expensive. Further, Disney knew of this in advance and from what I'm reading still hasn't informed their guests. Of course, the reason is that they also know that it will decrease bookings for two of their most expensive resorts, and they'd rather wee-wee a few people off than do that. They likely already have spoken with various CMs in management on what to offer disgruntled guests, and whatever it is the bean counters have already determined it will cost Disney less than actually informing said guests in enough time for them to modify their housing arrangements if they so chose.

It's your opinion that it isn't a big deal. Great, for you it isn't. For me, it would have completely changed almost every planned aspect of our vacation, and it would have been a big deal. You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion doesn't pay for my vacation.

I'm sure if Mickey clubbed a baby seal on national TV there would be a significant number of you folks that would attempt to stifle any opinion that it was anything less than super-cala-fraga-listic-expi-ala-do-cious. The rest of us would have a different opinion.

I have ignored a LOT of spelling and usage errors in this thread, KellyNY (impact is a different issue, given that it's not the responsibility of any poster).

But "the" magical word? If not for supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, I'd never have had the courage to tackle hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia... or pneumoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. Or Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.

I understand, I do, the magic word is the magic word, you do not play with such things,.. on Dis.;)

Respectively, those are a made-up word; the fear of long words; a lung disease found in miners; and the Nipmuc Indian name for a lake in Massaachusetts which roughly translates to, "you fish on your side, I fish on my side, nobody fishes in the middle".

You hit the nail on the head Rip.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I do feel sorry for the OP. Not having the monorail for half the day while paying for the Polynesian is a significant inconvenience. However, I have always considered the use of the monorail to be overrated. I think that many people "buy into" paying more for the resorts on the monorail so they can roll their strollers on and off the monorail instead of folding up the stroller for the bus. It always seems like a silly reason to pay so much more for a night's stay. I think it sucks that the monorail won't be running for all those parents of toddlers who are paying for the easy resort access ... but I think it was a really dumb reason to pay more for a resort in the first place.

FTR, I have stayed at the Polynesian once and at the Contemporary twice.

Hey, that's my line!;)

Man...my family must either be very odd or just very relaxed go with the flow type people on vacation.

This is something that would not even register with us as being an issue. We would take the monorail when its up and running, and at other times, take the bus or the boat.

For us, in the grand scheme of things, something being closed for a little while while AT WDW is so minor that it doesnt even register with us.

Stuff happens....if this is seriously the biggest thing you have to worry about in your life you have no idea how lucky you are. Maybe THATS why stuff like this doesnt bother us....we have much bigger concerns than a monorail or a ride being down during a vacation.

I managed to read through the whole 16 pages.:scared:

I only saw one post that mentioned the inconvenience to other park guests. We do a lot of park hopping and frequenly use the monorail to get to/from Epcot midday. Our trip would not be ruined, just changed.

We have not spent the cash to move up from values to even a moderate but when we dream,:cloud9: the convenience of the monorail appeals to us. It is always a question of easy Epcot or easy MK. It will probably never happen but if I was actually booked at the Poly instead of the BC it would be for the midday monorail to come back for a rest.

ETA: I did stay at the CR as a kid and loved the monorail access, it just probably won't ever come out of my pocket.

Exactly :thumbsup2

Lately these forums seem to be more about whining and less about planning. Honestly I so agree, if it truly is unacceptable, the OP only has 3 choices.

Accept it and get on with your vacation
Call Disney and see if they can move you
Stay Home

Which was my point earlier in this thread. I could not read the daily news and then come on this site and complain about this like it truly was something horrible.

While the use of the monorail may be "overrated" to you and "a really dumb reason" to pay more for a resort, for many people it makes perfect sense. I love riding the monorail, and do not find them overrated at all.

People should be happy that we all like and appreciate different things. Otherwise there would be one style of resort at WDW, with everything exactly the same. How boring! Now can we please stop attacking and belittling each other for having different tastes and opinions?

Okay...so long story short..here it is in a nutshell.

Is the lack of monorail use, during park hours, 'absolutely unacceptable'??? To me? No. To someone else? Yes.
And that's the bottom line. There are going to be those guests that really looked forward to being able to use the monorail, when needed, and booked their resort accordingly.
Are they right to be upset that Disney hasn't told them about the stoppage? Sure. I would be disappointed if that were me. On the other hand, Disney has a history of not telling their guests about such things. If you read the Disney fine print (which there is a ton of) you will see that nothing is guaranteed with them.

So, it's fine for those, who feel let down due to the closure, to write to Disney and tell them of their feelings.

But this constant going back and forth about who is right and who is wrong is just nuts. For instance, someone said that the GF is the nicest resort on property. For me??? Not so much. That is the one resort I have zero interest in staying at. My favorite?? BW. Just my opinion.
Obviously there are differing opinions. I have not tried to say that mine is correct...just putting it out there for some addlt thought. It would be really nice to see people a bit more accepting of others' opinions as well. :confused3:confused3

That would be nice. Not gonna happen, but it would be nice.

One aspect I always find funny is how when it becomes evident that no one is going to change their opinion, posters generally start nitpicking on words.

For example, now it seems that since that many feel that disney did drop the ball (again) we're going to nitpick on the title of the thread or we start pulling out the "fine" print. "Disney doesn't guarantee you the monorail, only transportation" when we all know that Disney most definitely charges extra for the use of that monorail.

So of course the original intent of the thread is over shadowed by who spelled what right or if some one is exaggerating or not or if a particular word is use correctly. I always feel like I should go back to graduate school and get a degree in language arts just to participate here.

When the original request was simply for an email address to lodge a complaint.

If this were the qualifier for posts, there would be no Dis Boards.

God, I hate this argument.

God, I hate this argument.

Lot's of folks hate that argument because it quickly puts everything into perspective....

But by all means, let's continue to be hateful, spiteful and attack one another because our opinions differ....I wholeheartedly believe we can significantly increase the drama and fill up another 16 pages in no time.
