We are going on our first DCL cruise in a little over two weeks (4-day Wonder 8/11) and in addition to getting totally excited I have a couple of questions concerning the verandas.

1) Are the verandas big enough for a family of four to sit out and have a meal on? and 2)Are all the staterooms laid out where the childrens' sleeping areas are closests to the veranda? I ask that the second question because I think it would be very romantic to lay in bed and watch the sunrise with my husband and still be able to have the privacy curtain pulled. Also it seems that having the children (sleeper sofa/pull down bed) right by the veranda could be a safety issue.

Look forward to all of your insights.

Thanks,
CB

Both time we cruised with DCL, we had verandah cabins. From what I can recall, it'll be a bit tight (like everything else on a cruise ship), but you should be able to fit a family of 4 dining out on the verandah.

As far as I know, only category 1-3 suites have their master beds next to the verandah. All others have the foldouts & TV next to the verandah. I don't think safety will be a concern because the sliding door lock is pretty high up for toddlers to reach, and the door itself is quite heavy to slide.

We were a family of 3 in a cat 6 on the Wonder. I think I remember only two chairs and a table on the verandah. However, we did order room service (which was quite good) one night and my DD ate in front of the TV (counldn't get enough of the Disney Channel!) and my husband and I enjoyed the time together eating on the verandah.

The couch bed doesn't pull out like a normal convertible sofa. Its like a wider cushion slides out...maybe 36" wide. After DD fell asleep, we'd shut off the lights and sit on the verandah. I never felt concerned about the proximity of her bed to the verandah. For the most part she minds what she is told.

I loved my verandah because i am a voracious reader and it was so relaxing just to sit out there and read. It was also great when the boat was coming and going from ports. Great view of everything!

Sorry to disappoint, but unless you have a CAT 3 or up, I think most of the verandahs are not big enough for four people to sit on and eat. Most have two chairs and a very small table, that you could put a couple of drinks on.

I agree with you on the lbed location issue. It seemed like a trade-off. We went with the veranda over the bed by a window, but both sound great..
